  1. Just wondering if anyone else has any experience with Denovali Records, as mine is somewhat weird.

Ordered a big package from them, got them promptly but one of the LPs was scratched - unplayable.

Sent them photos of the scratched record and they said they will replace it on a future order.

So I ordered another big pack of records, so to get the replacement as well, but never heard back again.

Been waiting for an invoice / total for that for 4 days.

It's a little odd, I don't know why any label/distro would refuse to sell a box full of records... I didn't get any reply from them.

Anyone else dealt with them before? Any feedback is appreciated.

    Thanks

  2. I get what the OP is saying, and for the most part he's right.

Labels, and even bands are getting cheeky with vinyl pressings exactly because they now most record buyers today are obsessive compulsive. Take for example the recent Opeth reissue of Ghost Reveries - they put them up for pre-sale a variant or two every couple of days saying they're limited to what ever but never disclosing the full range of variants. Thus triggering every buyer with a compulsion (that's 99 percent or them) to refreshing the store page every 10 minutes for a week and to buy all possible variants. And that's the buyer's problem, I don't care what they do with their money, but the attitude of a band / label towards the very people who support and purchase their music, is completely despicable. And by that I mean the lack of transparency and good faith regarding an in demand and sought after LP, because they know all too well, don't they?

  3. I've learnt to enjoy it rather than collect it.

I mean I sell or trade stuff that I don't listen to as much, I buy less and only buy what I will listen to. And even that goes if I don't listen to it anymore. Having shelves full of records for completion or for nostalgia's sake, doesn't make sense anymore.

That said, I will probably never give up on selected discographies I own :) but you never know.

  4. I love a lot of this stuff, so here goes a list. I probably skew a little towards the classical side though. Maybe tomorrow I'll dig up some youtubes:

    Hildur Gudnadottir

    Haushka

Tim Hecker (Ravedeath, 1972 is a good starting place)

    Julia Kent

    Dictaphone

    Johann Johannsson

    Max Richter (especially 24 Postcards)

David Lang ("Child" is my favorite)

    Pantha du Prince/Bell Orchestra

    Eat Lights Become Lights

    Ignatz

    Jasper tx

    My most recent find:

Warm Digits (kind of early kraftwerk with gnarly guitars)

And definitely check out these two records from last year, both are amazing.

    Snow Palms - Intervals

    Land Observations - Roman Roads

Here's my favorite site for this kind of stuff http://reviews.headphonecommute.com

That's a good website, I saw they reviewed Ben Lukas Boysen's "Gravity"... It's a good album, you should check it out.

Also, Sakamoto & Willits "Ancient Future" is a great piece.

Tim Hecker has a new album coming out, Ravedeath was really good, so looking forward to that.

Really good stuff, thanks for picking up so quickly.

A little on the sunny side, but Justin Klein sounds good.

I love this..  http://aidanbaker.bandcamp.com/  and anything Nadja related...

this label does some really great weirdo stoner jam shit..

Aidan Baker is always hit or miss for me, love some of his output, but most of it I just don't like.

Thanks for the recommendation, will check it.

hopefully more and more people post here

  6. Thought I'd start a thread for Ambient and Experimental (electronic, minimal, drone, vocal, etc) music, so if anyone is a fan or is interested in this stuff, please post your new discoveries, likes, recommendations, and why not, purchases, collections and new album alerts.

The purpose is mainly to discover new ambient and experimental artists, that I'm sure are so many and may never come across them, as well as old stuff that you or I may never hear.

Anything from Moebius, Eno, to Lustmord, Diamanda, and...insert new artists here...  Go!
