  1. I just emailed uf...will post the response when/if I get one

I'm a DW Subscriber in the USA and I've pre-ordered through UF for this OST, but I wanted an clearer picture of the different variants being offered so I emailed them early this am. No response yet. It's been around 12 hours. If I hear, I'll update as well.

  2. Cool. Out of interest how did you manage to get a copy with the replacement 1st record? I'm asking as I'm trying to obtain it on black vinyl so i don't have to mess around trying to get a replacement. Also how did you identify it was the replacement first record?

I was planning on getting the black myself even though I really wanted the blue. Especially after reading about the replacement vinyl on discogs, but not finding a mention of it on MOV's site. Not to mention that I'm located Stateside and MOV cant distribute here so I'm not even sure how I'd've gone about getting the replacement or who through. Anyhow, I found a copy of it for sale in ebay with both copies of the 1st LP - the replacement and the original (the replacement is a lighter blue). So I made an offer and got it for $50 shipped.

*EDIT* Relatively new to the board and I just read the Angel Dust thread. Imagine me explaining the above to 828321. Holy smokes. Anyway, the dark blue has the glitch and the light blue does not. That said, this is the best sounding version of AD that I've heard. Gives me great confidence in my AOY and TRT pre-orders.

  3. MOV are more than competent and have a history of well made high quality albums. The original MPO pressings is a little bit hot, so when things get really loud, there is some blistering to the sound, but it's not a major issue.

This version appears to have been remastered, with a different/new intro to Mouth To Mouth which I noticed. I;m unsure if there are many other differences, but listening to the original MPO pressing, it lacks the detail present in the MOV pressing, so although the MOV pressing is not mastered so hot, it doesn't lose anything in the way of dynamism and detail. I'm picking things up on this MOV pressig which I cannot hear on the original. That said, some feel that MOV pressings have a bit too much surface noise. That can be a side effect of having a cartridge which picks up more detail. So the cheaper blunter tool may forgoe that slight issue. It is noticeable, but is accentuated on better equipment.

On balance I'd take the MOV pressing on gold over the original even if they cost the same. I've not heard the black vinyl version yet. Mine will arrive tomorrow I expect.

Thanks for the knowledge. My MOV copy of Angel Dust arrived this morning before work so I'll poo something on here after I give it a good couple of listens. It's the blue vinyl version and it came with the replacement 1st LP as well as the original.

  4. i have the moon soundtrack from that label. it sounds and looks pretty good (even though the picture are a little pixelated) so i wouldnt be concerned about the quality of the release

Oh, spot on! I've that one as well. I bought it through amazon.com and completely spaced the label. Quality slab. I wonder if this one will be available there as well.

  5. I thought the same thing as Spencer tweeted a lot about it earlier this year and he said the release was something he "tried for but couldn't get." That said, its pretty odd that he's pushing the US subscribers like myself to buddy up with someone from EU since that release is readily available stateside. Even if they do have an exclusive colorway. Anyhow, if there are any UK or EU folks on here that would be able to pick up an extra copy I'd be happy to reciprocate now or in future. PM me! Cheers!

  6. Pretty crazy swing between the GiD Re-An and the flesh and blood var

    110/2000 versus 500/2000

    1/20 to 1/4

Just as a point of interest, these numbers may very well be correct, but I haven't been able to find out anywhere if the additional 200 variants pressed were in addition to the 2000 (300 variant/1700 standard) already announced. The edition could very well be 2200 now in which case, the special edition would be 500 of 2200 or 22.7%.

  7. And I think this is completely fair. Those of us who purchased at the drop are guaranteed a variant and there is still some random incentive, similar to ReAnimator, for folks that couldn't be hovering over a computer on a random Tuesday morning. I think Waxwork also deserves kudos for having produced beautiful colored vinyl for their standard releases thus far. As opposed to Mondo who only makes one randomly inserted variant to encourage multiple unit sales. I, for one, prefer the green to the glow vinyl on ReAnimator. And on DOTD, yellow and green version's description sounds top shelf as well. I bought one of each and wouldn't be surprised if the standard version was just as nice, or nicer, than the variant. Death Waltz also has some colored versions that I prefer to the subscriber colors. Light in the Attic as well.

  8. The Debut Carbon comes with a Ortofon 2M Red which is better than an Ortofon OM5E. Debut Carbon is $50 cheaper too, right? The upgrade path with the Debut Carbon is also cheaper: acrylic platter = $125, speed box = $129.

The Debut Carbon USB preamp is not switchable. Meaning you can't turn off the built-in preamp if you decide to upgrade or change preamps in the future. You're essentially stuck with that preamp as long as you have the turntable. Fine if you never plan to upgrade or keep it as a turntable plugged into your computer.

I have nothing against Rega's, I actually like them but being that the RP1 is more expensive and has a lesser cartridge, it will steer people to a Debut Carbon. Oh, RP1 has a matte finish, Debut Carbon is glossy.

Thanks very much.  This helps a lot.  Sounds like the best way to keep my options open is to get a usb ready pre-amp (like the Pro-Ject Phono Box USB) to digitze my vinyl.

  9. Depends on what the rest of your system is. A solid separate phono preamp will most likely perform better than any phono stage in a modern receiver, though integrated amplifiers like the yamaha you mentioned are better in that regard.

Do not need. Would not be good for your speakers or your ears. If you want to spend the money to enhance the sound of your set up get a preamp and plug it into another line level input.

Thanks to you both.  I think I'll try the Yamaha on its own and then, budget providing, pick your brains about pre-amps in due course.  Cheers!
