  1. Ugh, I plowed through my record budget this month in 8 days! I picked up the Red Haze. Nice surprise, came with an instant download! Jamming it now. Thanks for the heads up! Is that Vic on the first track? Killer!!!
  2. I hope Chuck gives the new DGB a proper treatment instead of throwing a clear record in a folded poster this time.
  3. I don't usually sell or trade records, but honestly I have just a few things that are sitting around in my collection and I have no use for them, and I thought that maybe someone here might be able to give them a better home. I do have a want list, but it's more or less just a shopping list for me, so not necessarily important that anything comes off here, as I plan on buying them anyway, but it'll give you a good idea of my interests. I'm mostly into 7" records, anything interesting involving original or UK press early Jamaican music, rare funk/soul...the kind of stuff that doesn't really populate discogs very often. Also into some punk stuff as well, anything odd/interesting, and bands like larry arms, nothington, owth sorta stuff(but I have most of what I want in that arena). Always interested in colored pressings of Fat Wreck stuff: TBR, Larry Arms, etc. My shopping list: http://www.discogs.com/wantlist?user=toomany45s Not interested in sales, just trades. Underoath - Define the great line 2xLP - Played maybe twice. Slight ring wear on back cover, slight wear on lower gatefold bend from sitting on a shelf. Test Pressings Cheap Girls / Noise By Numbers 7" - Yellow Vinyl hand numbered 9/20 Dopamines / Dear Landlord 7" - Black Vinyl blank white label Holy Mountain / Cobra Noir 7" - Black Vinyl - United Records standard label, no writing Planes mistaken for stars - We Ride To Fight (First Four Years) - Black Vinyl - Generic Test Press Label, no writing Punchline - So nice to meet you - Black Vinyl - Gotta Groove Records Test Press Label - Handwritten Band/Title on side a, black blank label on side be. The Have Nots - Proud - Black Vinyl - Blank white label Thanks for looking!
  4. Thanks, I saw they were supposed to be up yesterday, and that red haze looks slick, so I'm stoked on that. It's gonna have to be my last purchase for a few weeks, I have 20 or so records coming in the mail, and two replacement turntables getting delivered Monday. Hopefully nothing amazing will come up in the next few weeks!
  5. I missed out on the first press through bigtunes, do you have a link to order? I'm having an issue finding it. I have the new Debonaires and the New Hillyard as well, which are both pretty awesome, although not my favorite dave record. Picked up the oil in my lamp 7" when I went to see the Debonaires at punk rock bowling, and was stoked to get the new LP when it came out, it's been getting a lot of rotation around here.
  6. I suppose I can do this. Real name: Paul Favorite Bands: The Slackers, Hepcat, Prince Buster, Ken Boothe, Otis Redding, Clancy Eccles, Phyllis Dillon, Pat Kelly, The Aggrolites, The Lawrence Arms, Nothington, Cheap Girls, Chris Murray, OFF!, Circle Jerks and various other sounds. What's your Facebook/Twitter/Tumblr etc.?: http://instagram.com/schlitzbeer Hobbies (outside of record collecting): Live Shows, internet/vintage radio Play in a band? Run a record label? Link us!: I kinda put out a record once. Once. Random things you want us to know about you: I live in the ATX
  7. Anyone order the Slackers stuff from bigtun.es? I've got the new music sitting all zipped up on my computer, but I refuse to listen to it until the vinyl arrives...seems like it's been forever! Looking forward to hearing Wasted Days CD Version on Vinyl, and the LP Version, although I have two copies of the original LP. I also have to second the above statement about The Bandulus, "The Times We Had". Great Rocksteady/Soul/Ska. The first record 'Ska Reggae and Soul" is pretty awesome as well, and they have some tunes released that were dubbed out by McPullish which are fantastic also.
  8. I've finally got around to watching the documentary "The Super Noble Brothers"( http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=P8AolEn8qMo ) about Tom and Andy Noble, crate diggers extraordinaire. There was a small part in the movie about Tom Noble's band called The Legendary Thousandaires(28:06 in the doc), and I can't find any information on the band whatsoever. Does anyone here happen to have any information on this band, or any idea where I could find any recordings by this group? They licensed a song to Sex in The City called "Air India", so I'm assuming that there are some recordings floating around somewhere. As a side note, for any midwest ska fans, there's a small clip from Judge Joe Brown(or one of those TV Judge shows) Where The Pacers went to court over royalties, as well as a small live clip from the band. Decent documentary for anyone interested in crate digging for soul/funk records. Thanks for the help!
  9. If you caught it quick, you should be fine. I switch out my needles about every 10 months or so(probably around 900 hours of play). If you're properly cleaning your records, and your stylus wasn't previously damaged or on the verge of fracturing it can handle a couple of slipmat hits in my experience. It's also going to depend on the quality of the stylus. I've done this several times with no issue, but ya never know, so continue at your own risk!
  10. I would have liked to get in on this too...guess I'll have to wait for the regular version.
  11. That record would be awesome if they replaced the elway song with another masked intruder song.
  12. If you're going to Disneyland, why not just make the drive to Amoeba records on Sunset? It's only about an hour drive in traffic, and it's worth the trip. If you do go, plan on spending a good part of the day there, it's a lot to take in...and there's a ton of other stuff in that area to distract your family like theater, restaurants, people watching, etc. If driving isn't an option, I believe you can get there in a couple hours via the metro and a bus.
  13. Late to the game as usual, got the white copy, as well as the stereo state. I love white vinyl anyway, so no biggie, but those swirls look nice. Caught them in 2010 with Make Do and Mend, great show.
  14. I don't necessarily feel like having a mixer means you have to pump out the dope mixes. I've been collecting 45's for many years, and I find that there is nothing more pleasurable than being able to chain along 7" records when listening to music, especially when you're going tune-for-tune with a friend. I've always been a huge fan of the numark 19" mixers, because of the ungodly amount of channels in a small package. I can have my two turntables, along with my two cd players, and a channel coming out of my computer to listen to live streams and digital recordings, as well as a cassette deck, without ever having to stop the music. I also run one of the outs into my computer through a usb interface, which I feel is a must have for mixtape nerds. It allows you to use a variety of media to create mixes that are created in real time, with real media. For me, the vinyl record has always been about the level of interaction you have with the media. With a 45, you have no choice but to pay attention to the music. Having the mixer allows you to take that interaction one step further. If you haven't listened with a mixer involved, I think you'd be surprised as to how much more of an enjoyable experience it can be.
  15. Some pretty impressive setups here! Below I've posted a shitty photo of my setup. It's not fancy but it gets the job done pretty well. Since I listen to mostly 45s, I like to go with the 2 turntable option. I run 2 stanton str8-100's with shure white labels most of the time, going through a basic numark c3 19" mixer. On the lower deck, I have a numark cdn dual cd player, furman power conditioner and a behringer composer mdx2600(for the mics). For mics I use the Shure sm7b and an Audix om2. I also have a behringer 4 input headphone amplifier so that I can have multiple sets of cans going, of which I use the AKG K 240 MK2. If I'm listening in my living room, I run everything through an Onkyo TX8555 and a pair of Sony SS F7000 tower speakers. Some of the gear helps me do a radio/webcast type show, but the headphone amp is great for having friends over listening to records. We can pop on the mics, throw on a nice set of cans and have a conversation while listening to music.
  16. Thoroughly enjoyed the storage porn. I have the ole meat and potato Ikea solution for my small collection.
  17. Hey-o. I came across this board while scouring the webs for a couple releases. I've been collecting for about 20 years, and I've always been reading music blogs, but never thought to actually look for a vinyl blog. There's some cool info here. I'm a record nerd. Mostly Punk/Early Reggae/Soul/Afrobeat. 45rpm is my speed of choice, and 7" is my size of choice. Looking forward to reading all the posts here, and buying some records!
