  1. You will only be able to follow auctions, because following items in the collection probably wouldn't make much sense I don't think. Basically it will be exactly like ebay in that respect. But if you have an "alert"(saved search) set for say Teenage Bottle Rocket and someone puts a TBR record out there for trade/money offer/auction, you will get an alert in your notifications section. Those are the two ways it will work.
  2. ahha that is kind of funny. We WERE talking about that exact thing. Yes you're entire collection can be stored. And whatever you're not trading or offering for cash oorrrrrr auctioning, can be made private or exposed to the community. And the reason we have your entire list is one of the key features to the site. Automatic list updating when you trade, buy, or win an item. And we save the pictures from the auction or trade or buy for you as well and attach them to the item in your collection list. I'm making that video thursday. I think that's going to be a 2 parter. And Tom just said to me that "The" will not count when it orders the list alphabetically. So you're good there.
  3. Konk - good suggestion. We're going to do the Label filter just like the band filter. It makes a lot of sense. Besides the ease of searching via labels, which I do everyday on ebay, it will allow us to collect an insane amount of data. We like data. Data tastes good. See how easy this is? Few text messages to Juan, 10 minute meeting with Tom, and boom new feature!
  4. I got one of these sets in a few weeks ago. Definitely worth it. Helping out that little guy up there was real cool. And just 55 for 3 colors of a double LP and a double TP. Saw VinylVlog talking about it and just had to order it. Giant picture from my Blog here http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_CYW4QWnqI_8/SqRCAmJow8I/AAAAAAAAAEE/fxS9eHdx2tk/s1600-h/carrypackage.JPG
  5. Ok yeah I think Juan is correct here. A few sub genres and less main ones might be cool I think yeah. And what Matt said about the community being involved in the decision, I think is important as well. We're going to have a section dedicated to this, where people can vote and help with decision making. This seems like a good one to put in. Not sure when this section will be done, definitely not for launch, but it's an easy thing to make, so once it actually comes up in the queue it should be done rather quickly. And we'll just have to make the genre debate numero uno on the list. Matt - any help would be great. We'll definitely be in touch when the time comes. Thanks!
  6. Let me just add one thing to this currency question. We want to get the site asap. That's the main goal. I know all too well that when bidding on an item, from say UK where Peanut is from, doing the math myself, to figure out what I want to bid, would be annoying as hell. This is just one of the sacrifices we're making right now just to get this baby up. But like Tom said this is an important feature that will happen soon after launch. Thanks
  7. If we did a drop down we would probably do like 3 of them and it would be progressive. Like the top one would be the main genres and you'd fine tune after that. But we're a little nervous about genres. When they're there you expect them to work, and we technically have no control over that. That's up to the seller. And we're trying to avoid confusion. We can ask Juan what he thinks about this. I know he noticed an issue right away during development. Juan! Weigh in on this genre stuff. What's your opinion?
  8. Kind of like a If you like ___, you'll like this? yeah I'm thinking it could be cool. It would just be an alternate way to search. You can always search the typical ebay way, then you can search the new style band name filter way, then if you want to search for bands that are "like" a certain band, you can do that as well. If we had 2 spots on a "create auction" page for bands who sound like this band, then we could store all that info and use it to help spread music. There's so much you could do with that information. Think about it. If we saved all that info then you could go into the "sounds like" section and type say Silent Majority in and you would get all the bands sellers thought sounded like SM. And they would want to put that info in their auction when they created it cause they know people could be searching for their auction that way. Does that make sense? I think it does hahah Just not sure cause I'm tired and sorta sick. hahah
  9. well you don't have to fill out that box, but the seller will definitely fill it out. You know? We're not forcing them, but if they don't, buyers won't find their auction easily. Just like you said, putting Brand New in that filter box will yield results, and that should make the seller WANT to do it, cause they know if they don't, and someone puts that name in the box, their auction won't come up. But I think the other band names in the title help to a certain degree. That's why we have the idea of another place to put "Bands Like This One" this way if someone wants to search that way they can.
  10. yeah, that's a really big feature that I'm super excited about. One thing that may not be that obvious at first though is that feature is almost more of a selling feature than a buying feature. I mean of course people who buy a lot want to be informed quickly an easily about auctions concerning a band they're tracking. But in actuality, who does that really help? The seller! The easier it is to find an auction, the more people know about the auction, so obviously the more people will be interested in it. That's a really great way to, one, make sure the seller gets what he deserves for the item and two, make sure the buyers out there don't miss their white whale. I guess since ebay is so big it's hard to cater to every industry. That's why they never made this feature more collectable orientated.
  11. New Screencast - Create an Auction http://bit.ly/nLvwD had some fun with this one.
  12. we will have RSS feeds as well. Definitely. Missing auctions is the worst feeling ever.
  13. Looks amazing man! How about adding syndication for auctions so we can follow bands, genres, type of auction (music, paper, etc.) when we aren't on the site/don't have a browser open? If there is a way to do it, have updates on auctions you are watching or bidding syndicated as well? Like saved searches/alerts? Meaning if a band comes up that you have an alert for you get an email? This will be done yes. That's an absolute have to have for me. I want to know anytime certain bands come up. And that "filter by band name" feature is a HUGE part of that. First we need to know the exact band that's being auctioned, then alerts for bands work perfectly. Never ever miss another auction. That's my goal.
  14. I have completed and posted the first screencast to the LP blog. http://bit.ly/UPBSY Let us know what you think. Thanks!
  15. OK first step has been completed. We now have a simple blog setup at Blogger http://bit.ly/1aAp59 the preview link forwards to the blog as well now. Video screencasts should be up later this evening. First one is going to be the Auction Search Results page. Very cool search feature in there that I'm super excited to explain. Thanks!
  16. Wow thanks for all these compliments. Can't wait till everyone sees the screencasts. It's going to be a lot easier to understand our thinking behind certain ideas. Here's my weekend plan: Tonight I'm going to make a simple blog attached to the site. Like blog.limitedpressing.com or something. I'll move all the screenshots over there. Then tomorrow I will start recording screencasts and hopefully by sunday I will post one and then update this thread. (and any other threads I create on other sites.) The blog should work well cause anyone can comment there and if they have any ideas or criticisms there won't be any confusion as to what we're discussing. Plus it can be neutral/common ground for all the boards to meet and discuss. One thing of note. I just got a PM from WhensLunchRecords saying he couldn't fit his username. Tom had it limited to 15 but he's switching it to 20. This should happen by tonight. So if anyone was concerned about the size of their name hopefully this helps. Once again I appreciate all this feedback. Any questions you have PM me or post here. I'll do my best to answer anything you throw at me. Thanks!
  17. this weekend I will be posting on those boards definitely. Right now I just wanted to get it in here cause this is the forum I follow on a daily basis. Plus because of Juan, I think you guys should get first crack at seeing any updates. thanks!
  18. I'm not a big fan of fees to be honest. What I'm absolutely sure about right now is there will be a free account that will allow everyone to do basically anything on the site. This free account will probably let you have a bunch of simultaneous auctions and unlimited everything else. But besides that we will probably figure out a yearly subscription fee for people/distros that auction tons of stuff and are always turning things over. Not sure what that will be right now though cause we don't know the costs. But I would think it could be something like 40 or 50 bucks for the year, which would get you an insane amount of simult. auctions and then a ton of other features that I will explain in the videos. For 75% of the vinyl world the free account will be good I think. Especially if it's easy to post. Which it will be. That was one of my absolute have to haves. Easily creating an auction from your list. This way you can just hit a button and boom the item is out there and you can get yourself some cash.
  19. My brother Tom and I have been working on an auction/community site for vinyl, clothing, prints, etc, for a while now and we're getting close to launching the beta. If anyone watches my video blog or listens to my podcast you know I love ebay. But it has it's problems. It's very hard to find things on there because of how vast and broad it is. It's also corporate as hell. They charge crazy fees to sellers. I miss the days of Skylab where if you wanted to auction a demo tape or a record, you could just throw it up there for free and there was no bullshit. So Tom and I decided to try to do something about it. I have some screenshots for everyone to look at if you're interested. http://bit.ly/jGgX1 First thing you're going to notice is we have a spot for collections, and that you can trade within the site as well as auction. There's a screenshot of the deal making system that my bro devised which is pretty cool. There's also a bunch of other things that I could talk about but I want to keep this short. Here's our plan of attack over the next month: First we made a Username Reserve page/ Beta signup. Really this is just to lock you in to the beta release, which should happen in 2 weeks. And make sure no one takes your username. We're going to also make something cool to put next to any of these usernames to let people know you're OG haha should be fun. Consider this the pre-order. http://bit.ly/12mGaX that's the reserve/beta signup page Next 1-2 weeks I'm going to make screencast videos detailing each section and how it works, then post them to this thread. Maybe 1 each day or so. They take a little while to make cause I have the editing skills of a gorilla, but when they're done, they're pretty cool. You can ask Juan. He saw a prelim screencast I made for him a few days ago. He's helping us out with ideas and suggestions which we appreciate a lot. Then after 2 weeks we launch the beta. You'll be able to put your list in and check out the deal system. You'll also be able to post auctions, but they won't actually be real auctions yet. This is just a time to get people acquainted with the site and see how it works. It's also a time for Tom to see if there's any issues. So it would be real cool if people just posted stuff and bid. Posting auctions where you are trying to sell small children and sex toys are encouraged. We'll make sure everyone knows it's not real. That will happen for about 2-3 weeks. Then we're going to try and get this thing up for reals. We have a ton of ideas. More than my brother can handle, but he's a workaholic, so I like challenging him. I'll keep this thread updated as often as I make a screencasts. I really hope everyone likes what we've come up with. thanks a lot Nick UPDATE 9-20-09 New blog that will handle all the previews is up http://bit.ly/1aAp59 The preview link above now forwards to the blog as well. Screencast to be up this evening. First one will be the Auction Search Results page. Thanks Update 9-20-09 9:00pm est The Auction Search Results screencast is up on the LP blog http://bit.ly/UPBSY Let us know what you think! Update 9-21-09 8:20pm est New Screencast - Create an Auction http://bit.ly/nLvwD had some fun with this one. Update 9-22-09 10:00pm est New Screencast - Inside an Auction http://bit.ly/2SAZ0K I did this from the seller's point of view and the bidder's. This is where it starts to get interesting. No video tomorrow. I'm going to make the Inside the Collection 2 parter and post thursday. Seport is good http://twitter.com/seport Update 9-23-09 8:30pm est New Screencast - Collection Management http://bit.ly/1OyOSk This explains the collection management system and leads into the rest of the trade/sell section of the site. Update 9-25-09 9:30pm est New Screencast - Deal Making http://bit.ly/CzLa5 This is a quick run through of how the deal making system works. It might be confusing the first time around, cause I only get 5 minutes to make the video and it's a complicated system that no one has really tried before. Hopefully you get the gist. Let me know if you have any questions. Thanks! Update 10-4-09 12:17pm est we just hit the button on the first wave of invites.
  20. someone buy that I, Robot split....Do it now, before I buy another one.
  21. that's worth some serious scratch. all or nothing is going to be tough for someone. good luck.
  22. Hey I have a few rare doubles I'd part with for cash or trade. With a trade I'm looking for 90s LIHC/NYHC. You can PM me or email me at [email protected]. Email is usually faster. Movielife - Self Destruct - White #90 of 100 H2O - Seveninch - Blue Rookie Lot/Yearly Split on black - #ed out of 1000. I think it's like 500 and something.
  23. it came on quite a few colors, all are just about the same in terms of rarity. http://www.deadformat.net/press/9121 so weird. I've never seen anything but clear and Bronzecast has one up on ebay and it's clear. That pressing info says only 110+ were made in clear and there's a million other colors....I'm totally lost. You know I'm a pretty big long island vinyl collector and I would know if there were other colors made of that 7". I think that pressing info is wrong, clear was the only color made, and I bet there was about 500 pressed.
  24. I didn't realize that movielife/ex#5 came in anything but clear...now you got me on the hunt. damnit
