  1. One more quick comment for those of us who use Tidal and haven't yet heard White. Looks like Tidal's hosting the Master, but you have to use your computer's browser to access it. My guess is they've gone above their usual  "Hi-Fi" 16/44 and done something truly Hi-Res this time. Worth looking into, if you can. Seems tonight's shift will be starting at Blue and moving forward through the discography as far as my coworkers can tolerate.

Are the MFSL pressings of blue and Pinkerton worthy upgrades over other pressings.?

    cheers.

Heard from a little birdy that the Vinyl Me, Please exclusive version of Pinkerton used the MFSL plates. Could be a good way to get the same pressing for far less, assuming you're a member.

Now if they could only do this for Blue

To be honest.   My copies had a slight warp, but nothing that affects play.   That said the double-45rpm thing does sound incredible.   And it seems like they got A&M's attention and that's why we get another version plus Congratulations I'm Sorry.   I'll take it.  No regrets.

Furthermore SRC took a chance on pressing Far's records as well as Say Hello to Sunshine.   Also Hum's Astronaut and Silverchair's first two albums were crazy expensive, so kudos for making that happen.   And doing their diligence for remastering/remixing for vinyl, which in my eyes is the whole point of a vinyl release.

Getting a SRC copy of Say Hello from someone on Discogs was the whole reason I got into the label. Luckily the local shop gets enough from them, so I really could just let them accept the risk if I didn't want to.

that being said, I ordered 5 records from them at once and they arrived immaculately packed. When 4/5 were $15-17, I really couldn't pass it up. Maybe I just got lucky.

I'd imagine you're in the majority. I personally have massive soft spots for Green and Maladroit. They lost me after that (Red had a moment or two) but the last two albums have pleasantly made me appreciate Weezer again. Hopeful they can make it three in a row.

See, I'm sure I'll find myself at a point where I can get into it all again. I still have no idea how I ended up with Red, too. Must have been a group-haul at one of my earlier RSDs and I don't think I've even played it lol.

We used to jam out to Blue before every show we did back in HS as a sort of ritual, but I was definitely more a softie for Pinkerton/Maladroit. I think the lyrical content just resonates with me more.

  5. Checking in here. Have Blue (2002 RE), Pinkerton (2002 RE), and Red (2008 Red Vinyl pressing). For some reason, I skipped Green, so would be curious about adding that one to the collection if the quality of the more recent pressings is up to snuff. Same with Maladroit.

But beyond those albums? Can't say I've listened to much since, but couldn't really get into what I heard. I'm not the only early-Weez fan here, am I?

Yeah, I know.  I'm not sure if I'm even going to bother with them to be honest.  I will definitely think twice before I purchase anything from them again though.  But...it happens even with the best pressed records.  Still, it is playable, but it's  far from perfectly flat and will be noticable anytime I decide to give it a spin.  Really disappointing.

For records like that, I find that I have pretty good luck just putting them into a tighter-packed section of the collection and forgetting about it for a while. I put my records in MoFi-style sleeves between the LP jacket and an outer sleeve, though, to mitigate the possibility of any seamsplits. Might work for you.

    This is CLASSIC:

its still available on Bandcamp for $25 and he's trying to sell it on reddit for... well, I won't spoil the punchline.

But $27 shipped is a mere pittance less than his asking price. I have no idea where you're coming from on this one.

On a completely unrelated note, flippers are essentially the scum of the earth. Think I've scared a couple off with my ravenous fan-dom at the local shops.

  8. Well, I took the plunge. The fact they're adding in unlimited swaps gives me a bit of insurance from "crap I'd never listen to on my own" syndrome if there's something I feel like I'll legitimately just never play more than once. The subgenre memberships do seem cool. Really looks like they'll be digging deep into some back catalogues for those groups instead of the usual "must own" titles.

But if next month's record isn't DD...I might have to take the wife on an "I'm sorry" shopping spree and that won't be very fun.

Its pretty much 100% Demon Days which is a huge get for VMP and one of the clues being half speed mastered, it should sound better than those originals

and fyi after the announcement on the 21 is the price hike so if anyone wants to get in now before the hike and wants the $10 credit, just pm me and ill throw ya a referral link

    I'll PM you

For me SSTB will always be their best album. GA:IV is probably a relatively close second though. I really stopped caring about the band after GA2 though.

Feel like I'm in the same boat and maybe that's reinforced by the fact that, the last time I saw them live, In Keeping Secrets had just been released. Didn't realize until years later that they were all linked and tried to listen to the whole saga again, but found it harder to stay focused on anything afterwards.

so glad there is a much cheaper version of this not released by SRC available. always nice to not have to support such a terrible label.

Sure you don't want a super-rare commemorative translucent shit-brown version to add to your collection? Seriously, though, BullMoose's pricing is pretty on point. Just hope A&M gave it enough attention to detail.

  12. It's ironic I see so much vitriol about SRC, even if it might be well-deserved. Had literally no issue with my last order from them. Shipped 4 days ago (within 2 days of ordering) and I'll most likely be getting my 5 records either tomorrow or Wednesday. I lurked long enough to learn that buying anything on their store that they didn't press would be a major mistake.

But what's annoying is getting daily emails from them mentioning they have pretty much the same exact quantity of NME, but HURRY BECAUSE THEY'RE ALMOST GONE. Now watch that counter go towards one and magically grow a couple extra zeros at the end...

That's obnoxious.  And kind of embarrassing.  Makes me wish the forums were private... or that we could secretly band together and devise a way to make him end up with a stack of Ed Sheeran records that he can't move.  Maybe someone will see him at RSD with an arm full of Coheed & Cambria records and knife his tires or something hit him with a bus.

He pulls that up here at Silver Platters and I'll give Claudio a call myself

Yo neo_styles Tug is kind of a figure of fun/disdain on this board after endlessly bumping any and all threads to do with The Used and starting several threads just about his hunt for the perfect inner sleeve. You seem like a stand up guy for trying to help him out but he will not be satisfied with any of the suggestions or advice you pass on, he'll just change his original specifications to keep the conversation going on and on. There is a lot of debate if he is for real.

    Appreciate the heads up

  15. Your tube amp was, by design, quite midrange-heavy. Now that you're dealing with SS, you're fighting an uphill battle between A/D/A conversion and far less introduction of harmonic distortion than your ARC was putting in. Yes, tube is a livelier sound, but I have a really hard time considering it "natural" in a production sense...but that's just the producer in me. That's why the good companies spend far more on the right DACs and power/amp stage topologies on SS amps; it does make a world of difference.

As for your choice between the Marantz and the Emotiva, I'm sorry to say, but that's kinda why I rarely recommend Marantz to anybody. It seems, over the past decade, D&M seems to have shifted a bit from focusing on the audiophile and, instead, put more resources into the consumer market. Even McIntosh has suffered sightly and I'm surprised to see new owners of their equipment end up similarly underwhelmed. Emotiva's really not a bad brand. They focus on only a few things and do it quite well. Between them and NAD, I'd rather send my money to Emotiva...if that carries any weight.

At least this was a bit of a learning lesson for you, but I encourage you to not think of this in terms of better/worse, but simply different. They're two entirely different topologies and I think you're already on the right track to finding a happy medium between the Marantz and ARC based on EQ settings.

Got it. I emailed Jim Pendleton at AIVS earlier and he answered a few of my questions. Might speak to him tomorrow, but I'm definitely leaning towards his product. I appreciate your advice as well!

Jim's great and eager to help out. I'm sure he won't steer you wrong. Don't be afraid to ask any technical questions you might have. As much as that stuff costs per oz, it's better to know you're getting exactly what you want.

  17. I wasn't able to scroll through all 98 of the other pages, so apologies if there's repeats. These are just a few that come to mind:

Norma Jean - Bless the Martyr and Kiss the Child

    Blindside - A Thought Crushed My Mind/Silence

P.O.D. - Snuff the Punk/Brown/The Fundamental Elements of Southtown

Embodyment - The Narrow Scope of Things

    Marcy Playground - Marcy Playground

Matchbox Twenty - More Than You Think You Are

Noise Ratchet - Till We Have Faces

    Savage Garden - Savage Garden

Tool - 10,000 Days (official release, not a bootleg)
