  1. "Olden Yolk began as a solo project for Quilt’s Shane Butler but it has grown to include fellow multi-instrumentalist and songwriter Caity Shaffer, and is now a four-piece band. (Quilt fans, don’t worry, they’re still together.) The self-titled debut album by Olden Yolk will be out Febraury 23 via Trouble in Mind, and was recorded by Woods’ Jarvis Taveniere with co-production by Jon Nellen (Ginla, Terrible Records). The record also features Quilt’s John Andrews and violinist Jake Falby (Mutual Benefit, Julie Byrne). The first single is “Takes One to Know One” which doesn’t stray too far from Quilt’s krauty psych-folk, which is just fine as this is pretty great, with skittering, Can-inspired drumming driving the delicate melody and arrangement" vía http://www.brooklynvegan.com/olden-yolk-shane-from-quilt-announce-debut-lp-share-takes-one-to-know-one/.

  2. “Strange the ones you love could bury your body underground” opens Anna Burch’s new song “Tea-Soaked Letter,” for which we have a video today. Burch’s ’90s-nostalgic voice and tone pairs well with her simple, straightforward, poignant lyrics, asking a love interest to improve their communication as promised and send her a “tea-soaked” letter. In the video, directed by Ambar Navarro, Burch makes tea, makes toast, looks at tarot cards, sits in a bath — all while looking a bit anxious, like she’s waiting to hear from the person she’s singing about. Prior to “Tea-Soaked Letter,” we heard “2 Cool 2 Care” and “Asking 4 A Friend” from Burch, and now have learned that she’s releasing her debut album Quit The Curse in February. Check out the new video below via The Line Of Best Fit.

  3. The singer-songwriter and producer Jonathan Wilson is Father John Misty’s “secret weapon“; he’s worked with the Mist on all three of his solo albums. And early next year, Wilson will release an album of his own, entitled Rare Birds. The new LP includes contributions from Lana Del Rey on “Living With Myself” and with Father John Misty on “49 Hairflips.” Wilson’s shared a kaleidoscopic CGI video for the album’s first single, a slightly War On Drugs-esque seven-minute rumination called “Over The Midnight.” Check it out below.

  4. 'Hundred Acres' finds Carey at his most confident, mature, and grounded, writing the strongest songs of his career. At its core, the album is a poetic treatise on what is truly necessary in life, a surprisingly utilitarian art project that underscores the power of enduring. Carey challenges himself and the listener to strive for a near-utopian ideal of returning to a simpler way of life, and loving those around you, to heal personal wounds.

Hundred Acres is out 2/23 on Jagjaguwar.

  5. Starcrawler are a Los Angeles rock band who formed in 2015 when 18-year-old lead vocalist Arrow de Wilde first met guitarist Henri Cash at their Echo Park high school. Shortly thereafter they were joined by the rhythm section of Austin Smith (drums) and Tim Franco (bass). The foursome play with squalling riffs and thundering beats, and their incendiary live shows, fronted by de Wilde’s otherworldly magnetism, are truly captivating.

Rough Trade is excited to announce details for their upcoming self-titled debut album, which will be released on January 19th, 2018. Recorded by Ryan Adams on analog tape at his Pax-Am studio, the 10 songs on the album prove that yes, they ARE making rock and roll exciting again.
