  1. I don't know how people have trouble keeping a decent ratio. Mine ratio on Oink was amazing, I think 6+

I'm currently at about 3.6ish on What, it barely moves these days.

On Waffles my ratio is like 50+ because I only downloaded a few things during a freeleach, haha.

My ratio on What is fucking retarded low. Yeah, I've downloaded some obscure shit that a lot of people don't care about. But I also stole the Taylor Swift CD and some larger underground bands like Mountain Goats and Andrew Jackson Jihad and Against Me! but nobody fucking uploads. Lame.

I've been thinking of just downloading till I get banned and forget about it. Does that effect the person that invited me? ???

  2. What the hell is that?

Albondigas is Spanish for meatballs. It's an absolutely DELICIOUS Mexican soup. Everything needs to be homemade, from the base (broth/tomato base) to the meatballs, no frozen junk. If you find a good recipe it's amazing. I've gotten it down to where I can make a really good batch of albondigas but it doesn't come close to some of the REALLY good ones.

  3. Good luck with that. Dude has put out sooooo much music.

Yeah dude, he's put out a record a year for like the last 9 years. The exception to that was 2007 but he put out two in 2002 (I think). Plus there's like 3 collection CDs with 20+ tracks each on them plus a bunch of EPs and splits.

My old computer had 200+ Mountain Goats songs on it and it wasn't even close to being all of his released material. Plus there's tons and tons of demos and live bootleg material. It's pretty ridiculous. And honestly, some of it can be kinda hard to get into so you might get burnt out on it before you even get to some of the really good stuff.

There are also two main "eras" of the Mountain Goats. The early stuff was just John Darnielle and was very low-fi, with no overdubs or retakes. That era culminated with All Hail West Texas, a masterpiece in my opinion, and then they put out Tallahassee and from then on the albums were recorded in a proper studio and with more instrumentation.

    Solo/Low-Fi era

    All Hail West Texas

    Coronoer's Gambit

    Ghana (collection)

    etc.

    Studio/band

    Tallahassee

    We Shall All Be Healed

    The Sunest Tree

    Get Lonely

    Heretic Pride

Life of the World to Come (new record out Oct 6)

  4. All Hail West Texas

Easily one of the best albums of all time.

This is where I ALWAYS tell people to start.

They also have a new record coming out Oct. 6 that I actually just stole off the internet last night. I haven't listened to it yet, though. I didn't even know they were coming out with anything new so that was a nice surprise.

  5. Just compared Kunaki to that other site posted. The other one looks really good but their prices are a bit higher. Kunaki is $1.75 per disc with NO minimum. The ONLY downside is you can only get a two panel insert (front/back), there is no option for a 4 panel. But other than that it is great. Retail ready CDs at $1.75 each. From what I have found that is unheard of unless you're buying 1,000+ copies, then it's really easy to get everything around $0.80/each.

  6. I gotta disagree here. PS3's exclusives like Metal Gear Solid 4, LittleBigPlanet, Uncharted, and Ratchet and Clank have me playing it more than anything on the 360 right now.

Those are some pretty sweet games. I hate every day of my life that I can't play LittleBigPlanet and Fat Princess, but you named 4 games. How long has the console been out?

I don't like getting into fanboi warz, but most people feel that the 360 has a better game catalog.

Yeah, but what exclusives does the Xbox 360 have? Halo, Gears of War? Bioshock came out on PS3 and I think Dead Rising 3 will be on both now. I guess there's Left 4 Dead. What else is there?

I'm not getting into the fanboy arguing either, I'm genuinely curious. I'd like to get a 360 but I think there's too much overlap of good games to make it worth my while for just a couple exclusives. I might actually pick up a Wii.

  7. There are better games on the 360.

    This.

Also, when the full version of Gran Turismo 5 comes out in the Spring it's going to be HUGE.

  8. Out of curiosity, and I honestly don't know, do people who set up distros at shows have to pay either the venue or the bands to have that set up at the show (either up front or a cut)? I can see pros and cons of that but I really don't know

No, and I don't know anyone who would. However, I only set up my distro (which is really nothing more than a couple boxes of 7"s and some t-shirts) at shows that I'm somehow involved with. Either a band I've done a release for is playing, or I booked it or I'm really good friends with the promoter or something along those lines. I would never just show up to a show that I have no part of where I don't know the promoter and just expect to sell my shit.

  9. 3. The Mary Kay / Pampered Chef Pyramid Scheme at Vinyl Collective - I jokingly call it a pyramid scheme as this idea was inspired by Mary Kay and Pampered Chef where people help sell Vinyl Collective/Suburban Home titles in their community to make extra money. It won't be a scheme though. Do you remember when distros would set up at shows? We want to see this again and will soon be calling upon people all over the world to help us sell our records as well as non-exclusive releases. Can you imagine having 50 to 100 Vinyl Collective representatives selling our records and those of the small labels we buy from? It could revolutionize and uplift our small scene. Sam from Goodcore and I are bouncing ideas off each other to make this work.

how does this differ fromt he existing network of independent diy distros? i still bring my distro to shows and fests and set it up. as do a number of other people. probably many more than 50-100

i guess i dont understand how this is a revolutionary concept to get people to start up distros. this exists and has existed for a great many number of years.

Yeah, that had me scratching my head as well. Distros might not set up their stuff at bigger shows with nationally touring bands but I still see it at every local/DIY show I ever go to whether its in a bar, living room or basement.

Also, if someone wants to start a distro all they need to do is get in touch with labels and ask for a wholesale catalog. A lot of labels don't require you to buy that much in order to get stuff at wholesale prices, especially smaller labels. I'm just not seeing how this is anything different than what can easily be done already.

  10. Raffle and VCFL sounds great!

    Looking forward to participating!

You realize that's the $1,000 package, right?

I'm just curious because I see 2 or 3 people stoked about that package and I'm trying to figure out if they are confusing it with one of the other packages. It's a nice idea for a label that we could trust to stick around, but I just don't see why anyone would plop down $1,000 up front on something like this, especially nowadays.
