  1. Recess? You listening? Hold on a second, of all the labels to choose from.... you're calling out Recess? Recess?! http://www.recessrecords.com/_wordpress/?page_id=22 Yeah, fuck those guys and their 100 different colors across 100 records. But seriously, other labels do this to sell multiple copies of shittier releases to Johnny Collector. Recess just did multiple colors for the Screeching Weasel repress, which would obviously sell anyway AND retail them $10.
  2. Dear Var, Thanks for bringing this up, I feel like sometimes people need to be reminded that they're being had and have a choice in the matter. $7 LPs from No Idea will always get my money way before $16 LPs from where ever else. The big problem with Matador in particular is that they're doing press runs in the thousands AND have standard/cheap packaging AND charge an arm and a leg. Pressing on 180g (especially since they don't have the plates done specially for it most of the time) and including a download code are just bullshit excuses for charging that much. I will gladly fork over more for super small runs (and I'm not talking about 200/300/500 color variation splits of the same damn packaging) or for unusual diecut/specialty etchings/woodboard cover packaging. But otherwise, one shouldn't be charging $10+ for wholesale and then complaining about the fate of mom and pop indie stores.
  3. agreed. Maybe they realize they can make a killing on this next album. Or hopefully, the packaging is out of this world. Still excited about the album. Yeah something is definitely up with the big wholesale price and since Dangerbird doesn't do crazy color stuff, I too am guessing it's packaging... that or a bonus LP of demo versions (kinda like the 7" with the initial Carnavas).
  4. $10 too much. Carnavas was a 2xLP+7" and you can still buy it for $15.
  5. Great album, never heard the other releases. I think that other than this LP, there's no other vinyl except a comp: What Has Two Thumbs and Loves LI Punk and Hardcore? 7"
  6. I just think that when you find a color that so perfectly matches the band, why not press their other record on that color, too. because the song was on midwestern... and not on vs... Though it's sad for me to see D4 get the many color treatment, you should repress vs god on (Maximum) "Piss & Vinegar".
  7. servo is backed (but I don't know about his friend yourshitsucks)
  8. Probably because he has extra of the vinyl (due to an overrun or replacing damaged covers). Noob.
  9. Virgil, you know I love you but who was drinking what when these color choices were made?!
  10. I would have done this but they didn't have the new 625Thrash record in.
  11. 2000! holy crap that's a lot of records. I don't even want to guess how much VC's monthly paypal fees are
  12. I check records (usually 4-10 of them) all the time since the planes I usually fly on require planeside checking for most carryons. In fact I travel with a mailer just for this purpose
  13. I'm confused, is $25ppd a bad offer for this?
  14. I haven't even got my copy yet and I ordered on day 1.
  15. went to grad school for many years at Cornell. Now I split my time between the western Chicago 'burbs and upstate NY.
  16. I'd get one for less than $7. I still want to meet up and get some records from you Justin. What's this about a Reckless meetup Saturday? I might be back in town by then.
  17. Holy crap there were lots of different covers made for this.
  18. Dear new vinyl consumer, Welcome to the wonderful world of collecting vinyl! The day will come when you receive a new record -- direct from the label -- that is cracked along its side. Collector nerds often refer to this condition as "seam split". You will then feel the urge to vent your frustrations online, at which point message board sourpusses will attack you with lines like "but it still plays fine", "it's the music that's important, right?", and "if you're not going to 'flip' this, who cares?". Before opening up a tired debate that will undoubtedly include the phrases "fraizermart" and "welcome to 2009 OMGZ", you should consider contacting the manufacturer to see if you can come to an amicable resolution. Since the label in question is probably a "mom and pop" operation they most likely cannot afford to send you a new record for free. However, at the very least, your email may have an effect on their future shipping policies. If the damage was aggravated by shipping in a box unsuitable for LPs due to nontrivial lateral mobility, you could encourage them to use different boxes (AKA the "Interpunk Fix"). If the damage was solely due to shipping the vinyl inside the jacket, you could encourage them to ship unsealed records outside of their jackets (AKA the "Very Records Fix"). The bad news is that a boycott of all labels not catering to OCD collectors would cut you off from many fine releases. The good news is that you will learn from this experience and ship records properly, to the benefit of all your trader friends. Welcome again and many happy finds!
