  1. will you be running it through an amp or your PC via USB? if you are after cheap good speakers just go and spend $100 on some decent PC speakers and run the whole thing through your PC.
  2. cheers, typically i have it set a little low on the bass, because i also have a sub off to the side of the room that isn't pictured. And it does fine without any boosting, but if i put say a jazz record on i'll load the mid and top, if i have a more rocky record i'll flatten the top off and bumo up the bass. So i do play with it, just not too often, i tend to be a moody jerk and listen to the same styles for a week or so at a time how much was it?!
  3. loving that EQ man - looks real fun - do you play around with it much? or just have it set to a standard curve and leave it?
  4. amazing setup! correct me if im wrong, but are those frames above your set up the play and display frames? artvinyl.com.au/play-and-display.html If so, i just scored some as a birthday gift and i just couldn't be happier with them!! do you swap out the records often?
  5. i just put this up a week or two ago on another thread, but hey what the hell. pro-ject xpression iii classic / ortofon 2m red cart yamaha as-500 integrated amp krix equinox bookshelf speakers
  6. Hey thanks a lot man! yeah i've had it running pretty much non stop since i've got it. I really should try and record something being played now and re record the same thing in a month or two and see the difference.. The Speakers are really opening up noticably already - much more controlled bass and just sounding a lot fuller which is a welcome surprise!!
  7. +1 for the ortofon 2M Red. looks great, sounds better.
  8. Hi guys, Just a quick post to let those of you that are interested know that I finally got my act together and bought my kit the other day. See below for components and links to product pages. Pro-Ject Xpression III Classic - in mahogany finish (looks incredible) http://clefhifi.com.au/catalog/product_info.php?cPath=36&products_id=1300 Ortofon 2M Red Cartridge Yamaha A-S500 Integrated Amp http://clefhifi.com.au/catalog/product_info.php?cPath=34&products_id=1285 Krix Equinox Bookshelf Speakers http://clefhifi.com.au/catalog/product_info.php?manufacturers_id=10&products_id=422 Putting it all together I was so nervous - I had tried all the components together at the store, but all worst case scenarios were playing through my head, luckily nothing went wrong and the sound is just incredible - perfect crisp highs, nice defined low end (which surprised me alot considering how small the speakers are) and literally no background noise / hum from the turntable. All up I got everything for $2200 which was incredible seeing as my budget was $2000 to begin with and I was expecting to leave the store with only the A-S300.
  9. Thanks heaps guys - realistically i should just go for the pro-ject debut.. Besides my stupidly huge mp3 collection, i barely if ever listen to CDs. "Records only" is my motto - but having everything in the family room of my apartment really doesn't allow for truly high-end stuff. I'll give it all some thought and let you know what I end up buying.
  10. I don't *need* an integrated amp - I have a media center (Linux Server running Boxee) and a PS3, and it would be nice to run all of these through one receiver. However, if I can cut costs dramatically without sacrificing audio quality, I'd have no problem having a dedicated stereo receiver with a phono phase.... I just don't know what is out there to be honest.
  11. My current setup sucks. I'm using a no-name table that has inbuilt speakers that i bought purely for aesthetic reasons (I'm a sucker for bare wood products) the speakers are terrible - hardly any tonal range. good for acoustic stuff, but fall over when anything gets loud. I was thinking of soldering some RCA connections to the back of the box and running leads out to my media center but just haven't found the time. my budget is currently sitting at $2000. thats half for the table and half for the rest of the setup. I actually did a bit of snooping around and think i may have found a nice rig. AMP - NAD C316 $449 http://www.carltonaudiovisual.com.au/?q=node/view/1329 SPEAKERS - Monitor Audio BX2 <$600 http://www.carltonaudiovisual.com.au/?q=node/view/1373 PHONO PRE - Cambridge Audio 540P Phono stage $150 http://www.carltonaudiovisual.com.au/?q=node/view/705 That goes a bit above my budget, and obviously if I could get an amp / receiver that had phono input it would cut my cost a bit. I guess the beauty of buying the pre-amp would be that I could buy the Xpression III and the pre-amp and run it through my media center until I could comfortably buy the amp and speakers which would then replace the speakers in my media center... Any criticism on the above amp / speakers? Is there anything better out there for that price point?
  12. Thanks - just ordered it again. Sucks that Blue Grass screwed me over - i ordered a bunch of CDs off him ages ago and they took a good 4 months to arrive but they did... really not impressed at all.
  13. I did see that, but was worried to put any more cash out to buy this online... are they OK to buy from?
  14. Hi Guys, Really wanting this record. Dropped cash on it for a pre-order to Blue Grass Records and it never arrived. Have tried over and over and over to get in contact with the distro to no avail. I'm not even mad about losing the cash to be honest, I just really want the record. Such a great band. Willing to pay cost-price and postage if anyone is willing to let go of it. Might try again with blue grass, but I don't want to keep sending the bastard cash. Thanks.
  15. Hi Guys, New to the board, thought I'd jump in with both feet so to speak. I've been collecting records for the last 8-9 years and have never really had a nice table - I've had about 3 budget fully auto players in that time and they have served me pretty well - not overly happy with the sound quality, but have never really had the cash to do anything about it... But now I do... So I'm thinking of forking out a big chunk of change on a Pro-Ject Xpression iii... http://www.encelstereo.com.au/encel/Brand03pop.asp?id=3729 Has anyone had any experience with it? Is it noticeably different from the Pro-Ject Debut? Realistically, I should probably go with the Debut just because of the considerable price difference, but a) I don't much care for the bright colours it comes in, and I *love* the woodgrain finish the Xpression comes in, If I get the Debut, knowing me, I'd probably want to upgrade in a few years anyway... and c) the Xpression comes with an Ortofon 2M Red Cart, which seems like a nice upgrade... Also, while speaking of Pro-Ject stuff, has anyone got bad things to say about their phono pre-amps? I'm looking at getting the table and the preamp from the same store at the same time, but if there is something better for around the same price point I'd be willing to change it up... Thanks in advance for any suggestions or help!
