  1. have you looked back through the pages in this thread? honestly there are so many good suggestions, I'm still kind of shocked that 14 pages in we are still hitting so many similar questions. not that that's a bad thing at all! kudos for wanting to go out and buy some nice speakers.... but a little more info might be better... have you got any in mind already? what gear do you currently have? do you want to buy new or used?
  2. i know i shouldnt be surprised, but i cant believe theres a band called chickenfoot and it isnt a joke..... and that joe fucking satriani is in it.... too bad its the worst music ive ever heard...
  3. i was going to note that the amp / receiver doesnt have a phono pre-amp but the table has one, so really that whole set up should be fine! good luck and let us know how it goes
  4. well i'm trying to spend around 300-400, but i can go up to about 500. my receiver has a phono input so i don't think i need a pre-amp, but i actually don't know because i don't know too much about record players really, and mine now has one built in. i was leaning towards the pro-ject, and the essential is only 300, but i wasn't sure how good it was. if your receiver has a phono input as you said, you definitely wont need an external phono pre-amp.... you might want to look at that in the future (most inbuilt phono inputs in newer amps aren't very good, but that's getting away from the subject) So back to the table - I have an Pro-ject xpression iii and i couldnt be happier with my purchase. So I would recommend the pro-ject line of turntables. The guy that runs my local record store has a rega table and swears by it. It's really all a case of personal preference and most of the entry level audiophile tables are all much of a muchness to be honest. Spend 3-400 on a table, chuck a nice cart on it and make sure you have nice speakers!!!
  5. i have a sony ps-lx250h with a shitty replacement cartridge/needle i bought. i have an old receiver that works fine. looking mostly to just upgrade the turntable for now and the rest will follow once i can save up enough. well you will love the pro-ject tables and I have heard nothing bad about the rega tables either! it all comes down to budget!
  6. yeah i had the same experience, i ordered day one...they certainly had my $$$ and still charged me $20 for shipping they didnt charge you an extra twenty on top of what you had paid did they???
  7. yeah, I ordered mine the first day this was announced... guess their pre-order system was shitty...
  8. its fitting that the user who is selling this is named "dicktoe"
  9. just an update for anyone who is interested - looks like my order was "misplaced" as well... lucky I'm on vinyl collective, otherwise I wouldn't have caught this. From: Hunter Giles Date: 17 January 2012 5:41:35 AM AEDT To: Ben Subject: Re: Inquiry regarding order # Hey Ben, you certainly should have seen your copy by now... I've checked our shipping records, and can't find your order anywhere, a bad sign indeed. Terribly sorry for the mistake, I'm really not sure how yours fell through the cracks. In any case, I'll bump you to the top of the list and have a replacement sent out with the next round, very sorry again! Hunter NMH Records
  10. can anyone provide me with a contact to find out whats happening with this? I still haven't got mine and I'm starting to get a bit worried...
  11. regarding your first problem dude, check this out http://www.webupd8.org/2012/01/grub2-editor-for-kde-055-released-with.html
  12. yeah, that was the expected outcome. the correct thing to do once you lose grub is to boot into linux via livecd and then reinstall / reconfig grub to encompass linux and windows. next time you reboot your machine - you will have the option to boot into the two OSes - see! not difficult at all... you had all the right steps. you just gave up!
  13. grub should already be installed man - just boot into your pc via livecd / live usb and reconfigure the grub config files. millions of articles about it on the net. as long as you havent wiped your linux partition you havent lost anything.
  14. this might help you out a bit http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=224351&highlight=fsck
  15. correct dude - make a partition for windows. and grub is just the default boot manager for ubuntu for as long as I can remember...
  16. I never thought I'd say living in Australia would have its benefits, but I've already got a copy of the new Loma album. Stoked that they are on tour!
  17. just want to quickly jump in and say I've done it myself and there are no real dramas. Install windows on the secondary partition as per normal. it will take over the whole PC as a primary OS - not to worry. Boot the computer up into some kind of linux livecd / live-usb and then edit the grub to allow both OS options from boot.
  18. I did man. Woke up at 4am to snag one ahh jerk! I totally slept on this (actually slept. ahaha)
  19. just out of curiosity - how many aussies ended up getting the limited copy?
  20. well that sucks. that letterpress cover looks amazing. picked up a white copy. cant wait to give it a spin
