I just noticed a new album by "Other" pop up on RYM and Discogs called For the Purposes of This Conversation and supposedly released August 15. I may have overlooked the mention of "Other" on the first post in this thread, but this appears to be aka Other Men, the alias used by 3/4 of Heavy Vegetable when releasing Wake Up Swimming in 2007 - which is probably my favorite non-Pinback Rob Crow release.

I don't see anything about this on the Joyful Noise site. There may be a VIP page, although both entries I found were for digital releases, not vinyl, and it supposedly came out last week anyway. Nothing on Spotify. Anyone have any additional info?

It is part of the 2018 Artist in Residence Series, featuring new/previously unreleased Rob Crow-related material. Subscribers receive digital downloads of each release on the 15th of each month, with a vinyl box set to follow in November.

Per the O.Y. in Hi-Fi post above, supposedly only two of the releases from the series will be released more widely beyond the box set.

    Optiganally Yours, for the masses.

    Greetings VIPS,

Heads up: we are releasing the new incredible Optiganally Yours album on vinyl & digital this July!

In case you're unaware, the Optigan was a chord organ made by Mattel in the early 70’s that played lo-fi sound loops on flexible 12" discs- an early version of sampling technology. Each disc contained optically-encoded rhythm-section grooves in a particular style of music along with drum loops and keyboard tones.

Optiganally Yours, featuring Rob Crow (Pinback) and Pea Hix, is a band dedicated to these haunting sounds. O.Y. In Hi-Fi, their third album, is assembled from thousands of loops culled from the original Optigan studio master tapes.

O.Y. In Hi-Fi will be released on July 20 on split-color "ketchup & mustard" vinyl, yellow vinyl, and digital. Snag the pre-order now.

[NOTE: This is one of two releases from Rob Crow's Artist In Residence that we will be releasing more widely beyond the 475-unit box set. If you already purchased that box set, there is no reason to purchase again unless you're an absolute nutcase.]

So what single was released from Pinback in this set?  Hoping someone can do a rip at some point. Or ship it to me and I'll do one for everyone! Could prove a good track record with ripping vinyl and buying/selling, and I'd pay both shipping to me and back to you. Any takers?

We don't know yet. Only Optiganally Yours - O.Y. in Hi-Fi has been released so far. Albums are being released digitally once per month on the 15th, March through November, with the physical box set to follow in November.

Thanks for the tip - this is the only one missing from my LP collection, save for Ultimate Alternative Wavers which isn't required for me. I have a pressing of The Sound's From the Lions Mouth pressed by 1972 and it sounds really great. I had nothing to compare it to though.

    Here's the Amazon link: https://www.amazon.com/Ancient-Melodies-Future-BUILT-SPILL/dp/B01KQCYQEM

Hmm... I've got Jeopardy on 1972 and remember it sounding pretty bad.

The MOV press is still available at a good price: http://www.importcds.com/ancient-melodies-of-the-future/8718469535989

^Out of curiosity - how did you picture the vinyl? Does it require high photo-kung-fu level? I wish I could do the same with my Isis collection one day..

I'm no professional photographer - but I used a 50mm lens on a tripod with the vinyl on top of white sheets of paper and then cleaned them up in Photoshop. This is the first time I've tried this - I've since found a larger, more contiguous background (so that there are no lines showing in the clear vinyl images) and I still need to experiment more to remove the reflection of the tripod in the black vinyl images. Any tips are welcome.

  6. Here is my Trouble in Mind Records LP collection (I took all these images myself and stitched them together). These are all of the first pressings/mail order editions. Thought this one might be interesting because most of the records are pressed on randomly mixed "trash" vinyl, so each record within a pressing may look slightly different or may even be a completely different color scheme.

  7. I've read comments from someone on here about not liking the quality, but I've had a plain black for a few years that sounds great. Can't speak for any of the colored variants but I've always been happy with it. Great score on your part, I'd say!

Yeah, not sure what those comments are all about. I have all three variants and they sound great. Keep in mind, this is about a 50 min album cut on two LPs - could have easily been crammed on one LP.

  9. Quick aside: Perfect, Keep It, and Ancient Melodies are tragically missing from my collection. Should I just get the easily found reissues, or hold out for OPs? Any pressings sound better others?

If you want the best sounding pressings, get the 2007 Warner Bros. reissues of Perfect From Now On and Keep It Like a Secret and the 2015 Music on Vinyl reissue of Ancient Melodies of the Future. All readily available.

  10. OP may be a troll, but here's a real answer:

Throw it on eBay with a high Buy It Now - don't list it auction. There isn't much competition for classical releases like these because there are so many different performances of so many different works available - and they were mass produced. The three performers are fairly famous, the composer is obviously famous, but the work isn't one of his most memorable, but you may get lucky. Also, this set plays at 78rpm, which offers an even smaller subset of potential buyers.

  11. Updating my previous post: Here is my complete Trouble in Mind 7" collection. All are first pressings; numbered, colored, etc. where applicable. I also have all first pressings of the LPs; I may post that at another time.
