The Artist's cut from Vinyl vs CD?

Does the artist get the same cut from selling vinyl as they would from a cd? I ask because pressing a record costs a lot more, yet you're still able to get something like the new AWS on vinyl for $10 shipped.

They likely get the same percentage, but not the same amount of money overall due to the fact that the margin is so small.

but what about when an artist sells copies of a record through mailorder or at shows? is that all profit? or do they have to buy them from the label for a smaller cost?

yeah, my mate and his band had to buy their vinyl from the label at cost, for them to sell it on at gigs and such.

The way it works for most DIY bands/labels is the band gets a percentage of the press for free (around 10%). Anything more than that then the band has to buy at cost.

^Seems to be the best model for limited pressings/small bands/small labels. Percentages would be wayyyyy to hard to accurately document.
