Guest
I have a sizable CD collection that has been collecting dust for a few years since my cheap sony 5-disc charger crapped out on me. I'm looking for a decent CD player, with a decent DAC in my price range. Anyone still into digital audio around here that can help me? My budget is $250. eight1echo
I'd recommend checking out the used online sales in your region, probably craigslist. I got a nice Cambridge Audio CD player that retailed for several hundred when it originally came out for $20. Most people are just happy to get rid of stuff taking up room in their house and the value for CDs and CD players has gone down as the vinyl resurgence continues. Brands to keep an eye out for: Cambridge Audio, Marantz, Denon
ajxd
Do you have your system hooked up to anything else? Like do you use your system for your TV/gaming? Try getting a universal player if so... Oppo blu-ray players are known for being great transports. Two birds, one stone.
ajxd
Also, I have heard Marantz CD players before, and they are nice. You can probably find a CD5004 for $250. JumpingBean
Tardcore
my next bluray/cd player will probably be something like this http://www.amazon.com/OPPO-BDP-103-Universal-DVD-Audio-Blu-ray/dp/B009LRR5AQ/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1424108726&sr=8-1&keywords=oppo otherwise, these are rated pretty well $250 http://www.accessories4less.com/make-a-store/item/marcd5004/marantz-cd5004-single-disc-cd-player/1.html $300 but not a refurb http://www.musicdirect.com/p-13125-marantz-cd5004-cd-player.aspx?utm_source=googlepepla&utm_medium=adwords&id=61865531738&gclid=CjwKEAiAx4anBRDz6JLYjMDxoQYSJAA4loRmC0QTTK-F0ZfxtVmgFmpsDcADOqyuvkxflZAIR7FqWBoC3f_w_wcB Edit: Basically those things he said but with actual links. Guest
Oppo stuff is really nice, but my audio set-up is in a different spot than my TV (since I never use it). I was thinking of Marantz, but wanted some more opinions. I'll looking into it, thanks.
albie007
Save yourself $200 and go the used marantz route. I have the cd-20 and 30. Also a dual deck for burning. They were all bought for 20 to 30 bucks each.

Aim as far up the food chain as you can and if you go Marantz go for the SE or KI Sig models. Denon I find are not really in the same league but are well made. The other brand I would look out for would be Rotel.
Guest
Thanks for all the suggestions, will look into them all and hopefully get a new player here soon.
JumpingBean
NAD and Marantz have some great players in their current lineup. The entry level NAD is quite a steal at 200 bucks.
