If you read this post imagining me screaming at the top of my lungs, you will get a feel for how truly pumped I am. There is a lot of information in this post so please pay close attention. For starters, we just posted 2 mp3s which you can enjoy within this here post : Indigenous http://www.suburbanhomerecords.com/mediafiles/ThePlayingFavorites/Indigenous.mp3 Leavingtown http://www.suburbanhomerecords.com/mediafiles/ThePlayingFavorites/Leavingtown.mp3 THE PLAYING FAVORITES are Joey Cape (Lagwagon, Bad Astronaut) Luke Tierney (Penfifteen Club) Marko DeSantis (Sugarcult, Bad Astronaut, Popsicko) Mick Flowers (The Rentals, The Lapdancers, Popsicko) Tim Cullen (Summercamp, Popsicko) and pretty much everyone lends their vocal duties on this amazing album. Here is what Marko said of the record: There’s a refreshing honesty and authenticity to The Playing Favorites that can’t be fabricated. Their debut album “I Remember When I Was Pretty” plays like a tribute to a collective and possibly checkered past of a circle of friends. The album will be in stores on December 4th, but CHECK this out, if you pre-order the album, we will send you the ENTIRE digital album as DRM-free mp3s on November 20th. Yes, you will get to hear the album and put it on your Ipod a full 2 weeks before the official street date. Now you can ignore those crazy relatives coming over to your house to eat Thanksgiving dinner as you will be rocking out to the sounds of the Playing Favorites. There are 3 colors of vinyl available (Pink/Blue color within a color(150), Pink/Blue half and half(250), and a blue w/ white speckles(600)). All are going to look amazing. We are offering 25 sets of all 3 colors where the band will be signing copies of one of the records. Pretty sweet! The vinyl will come with a full color poster of the Playing Favorites and a Suburban Home Records’ sampler containing tunes from LaGrecia, Drag the River, Scott Reynolds and the Steaming Beast, Armchair Martian, and much much more. We also have to announce the fact that the Playing Favorites just set up their Album release show which coincidentally is also their first show ever, at the Viper Room in Los Angeles, on Friday, December 7th. We are so excited about the show that my wife and I are flying out to witness what should be an unbelievable night. Please accept this post as an invitation to join in the celebration of a truly amazing band releasing a fucking brilliant album! The Playing Favorites just set up a Myspace page with a website to soon follow. Expect many updates from their sites as well as ours. If you can’t tell from this post, understand that I am as excited as one can be to release this album. Please, please, please check out the mp3s and get ready for something truly special! matt
its strange to me how much i like this and the bad astronaut stuff but just cant get into lagwagon no matter how much i try and even more strange since the first punk bands i started listening to were all the epitaph/fat bands of the early/mid 90s. if anyone wants to recommend me a lagwagon album to listen to again please feel free. anyhow, just checked this out and i like it. ill be ordering soon and probably check out that show. That and Blaze are much more closer to Bad Astronaut than other albums. There is a jazz breakdown on track 2 I think of Feelings that is so fucking cool. And the song "Knowitall" by Lagwagon is a must have from "Trashed".
skumbucket
i agree -- 'let's talk about feelings' is one of my top 15 albums of all time. also, 'resolve' is a very nice combination of some of the more emotionally-based songwriting tendencies of bad astronaut with the old school, fast as possible musical leanings of the band. Guest falloutcollapse
Do you think the rest of the album is going to be this mellow? If so, I'm going to have to get it.
mclz
Virgil, how fast are these going, do you think you would still have pink/blue color in a color on sunday night/monday cause i gotta wait for a bank transfer until i can buy anything which takes a few days.
Guest Admin
the record is a good mix of mellow styles. It has some very rocking moments, but is in no way a fast, punk rock record. I think if you like these 2 songs, you will dig most of the record. There are so many amazing moments. And I think the pink/blue color within a color should be around through the weekend. they are going quick, but I don't think they will go that quick.
