KJL1995
Hi all, very new to this forum! I have been given a brand new Steepletone turntable for Christmas. However, when I play headphones, connect it to speakers, or even turn the volume right down, I can still hear the record being played (albeit fairly quietly). When I connect to speakers or headphones, they are most definitely completely plugged in. And when I turn the volume down, its as low as it can go without being turned off. I'm an absolute novice (and I mean absolute novice) when it comes to turntables as I'm just beginning to collect vinyl, so I'm not sure if this is normal or not! Apologies if I'm wasting anyone's time here! Thanks for any help in advance
Tardcore
I'm confused.... you should be able to hear the record being played...right? are you talking about hearing music? or some other sound? if it's some undesirable noise, it looks like Steepletone is basically Euro-Crosley, so...there's that. rooks
If you mean you can hear the music being played very quietly even when the volume is off, yes, that is normal. It is the sound of the needle running along the grooves playing the music. This is what you hear through your speakers, just amplified by the amplifier. If you are hearing the needle on the grooves play music while wearing headphones.... You must have amazing hearing. If you're saying what it sounds like you're saying though... of course you can hear the music when the volume is low. You can just hear it louder when the volume is higher... Tardcore
Let's get him together with the guy without an amplifier. They're bound to run into some dude without a phono stage and they can all skip off to see the Wizard. rooks, Tommy, just a normal guy kevin and 4 others

Thank you for responding. I just wasn't sure as I really am the biggest novice going!
