Anfernee83
Hi all - just looking for a little guidance from the community on where to go with my setup. Last year I purchased the following brand new: TT: Pro-Ject 1Xpression Carbon Class w/ ortofon black Phono Preamp: Pro-Ject Phono Box DS Preamp: Pro-Ject Pre Box S Speakers: older set of used Klipsch bookshelf speakers (the back says SB 1 Black) I bought from someone on Craigslist I have been borrowing a power amp from a friend - a Lindell Audio "Amp X" that I need to give back to him sometime soon. Here's what I am trying to decide...I need to buy a new amp but would like to spend under $500 (ok with me if it's used), but most of the decently rated ones I can find online are integrated amps. Any suggestions on which direction to go would be much appreciated. PS: I also would like to explore replacing the speakers sometime soon with something that might produce a little bit more bass as these are pretty tinny for me (here would like to keep under $200 if possible). Thanks for any help! AJ
youspinmeround
You have a 700 dollar stylus and 1k dollar turntable and are looking for 200 dollar speakers? I would readjust your thought process or your spending habits a bit first Jlegg and vinyl addict

I would readjust your thought process or your spending habits a bit first I guess I can translate this comment to "$200 for a decent pair of speakers (even used) is not realistic," since otherwise this was not helpful. Not looking for someone to justify my thought process on the stuff I have so far, but rather give some ideas on what to do next. The reality is I got the Pro-ject stuff at cost and had (and still have) a budget to work with, so I need to do it piece by piece.
Anfernee83
If those price points are ridiculous, then please give me some ideas on what might be more realistic. I'm still learning and on a budget here.
Tardcore
I bought a Marantz PM8004 used for around $500 a few years ago and have been pretty happy with it. Here's one on EBay for a bit more than that: https://www.ebay.com/p/Marantz-PM8004-2-Channel-Integrated-Amplifier/97052266?iid=252994861813&chn=ps&dispItem=1&ul_ref=http%3A%2F%2Frover.ebay.com%2Frover%2F1%2F711-117182-37290-0%2F2%3Fmpre%3Dhttps%253A%252F%252Fwww.ebay.com%252Fp%252FMarantz-PM8004-2-Channel-Integrated-Amplifier%252F97052266%253Fiid%253D252994861813%2526chn%253Dps%2526dispItem%253D1%26itemid%3D252994861813%26targetid%3D478161035192%26device%3Dm%26adtype%3Dpla%26googleloc%3D9018941%26poi%3D%26campaignid%3D764892186%26adgroupid%3D39783961149%26rlsatarget%3Daud-298628320986%3Apla-478161035192%26abcId%3D978836%26merchantid%3D6296724%26gclid%3DCjwKEAjwm7jKBRDE2_H_t8DVxzISJACwS9Wb3QVon9cfLBYjUo--vPtax0Q3hUzhu2XTpoYypLu_2xoC25Pw_wcB%26srcrot%3D711-117182-37290-0%26rvr_id%3D1241276233440 Edited June 25, 2017 by Tardcore Link
Anfernee83
Wouldn't an integrated amp make my pre-amps expendable?

It has a 'power amp only' mode that bypasses the built in preamp or you could try the built in preamp and maybe resell your Pro-ject stuff and recoup some money if you find you prefer the on board pre. For what it's worth, I'm using my PM8004 with a Marantz TT-15S1 with the stock Clearaudio Virtuoso cart and driving a pair of Monitor Audio RX8s.
