john
Why is it that i receive LPs all the time that are shipped media or 1st class mail, but whenever I mail them they tell me they are too big for media and must be shipped priority? aarondanger
Sometimes if packages are to light they won't ship media or first class. Also it depends on how its packaged sometimes
corbet
They are conning you, demand first class/media. I just made a post similiar to this yesterday regarding shipping an LP to Australia. One post office told me I had to ship Priority for $25 and I took it to another and they shipped it 1st Class for $12.
forgeagain
Nah, every LP is heavy enough to ship media mail. You CAN ship the lighter stuff via media mail, but when it's less than 10 ounces or whatever, it's usually cheaper to use first class. Whoever is working the counter of your post office is full of shit. Ask to speak to the manager, or show them this: http://www.usps.com/rates/media-mail-rates.htm As long as the combined total of length, width, and depth is less than 108" (9 feet), media mail is fine. Hell, I don't think the total surface area of an LP adds up to 9 feet. "Media Mail is used for books, film, manuscripts, printed music, printed test materials, sound recordings, play scripts, printed educational charts, loose-leaf pages and binders consisting of medical information, videotapes, and computer-recorded media like CDs and diskettes. Media Mail cannot contain advertising." LPs are sound recordings, thus they count.
