thebiglebowski
Is it bad for your records to stop them mid spin (you get that 1 second noise as the needle stops)? I try not to do it, but am wondering if I am worried about nothing.
markalark17
I was kind of wondering about that too. My USB turntable says that before you start the platter turning, you have to put the needle on the record. It seems like it would be basically the same thing as scratching, but I'm not sure. counterfiction
it shouldn't do TOO much damage but it's certainly not good for your records. i always pick the needle up personally but most of the time i will let the record spin all the way to the end, it's safer that way. thomas
I wait until the needle is at the end of the record, then lift it off and turn it off. It seems like turning it off with the needle still on the record is a good way to scratch them.
mcm1610
My turntable has a handy-dandy "stop" button that gently lifts the needle up and swings it to the off position while stopping the spinning.
mrc
i have a start, cut and lift bottons (lift is like a puase button, just pulls up the needle up) and if you hit the the cut button to stop it in the middle of the record/song, later on you can hit start and it will start playing where you left off before. I like it.
