Guest Admin
So last week, it donned on me that there were a lot of Fat back-catalog titles missing from Vinyl Collective. When I first started dealing direct with Fat, I started only with their more recent, better selling titles, and I figured now was as good a time as any to carry many of their older titles. So we just got in 4 boxes from Fat Wreck and in it are the titles listed below, half of which are being sold on VC for the very first time. Entering all the titles today made me feel a bit nostalgic as so many of these records mean so much to me. When I first got into Punk Rock in 1993, it was Lookout and Fat Wreck Chords that held my hand and showed me the ropes. The fact that Fat is still putting out incredible punk rock records 14 years later is truly unbelievable. As I was entering in the titles, I was thinking how Fat Wreck never seems to get the props they deserve. You always read pieces of press on indie labels like Vagrant (no fault to Vagrant), but Fat really deserves some recognition. They have influenced an entire generation of music fans many of whom later abandoned punk rock for "more mature"/"more hip" music while Fat still puts out the music they love. It would have been easy for Fat to follow the trends so many other labels are guilty of, but I am proud to say that Fat has yet to put out a Screamo record, an Emo record, and the only Ska-punk they put out was put out long after the peak of that genre. I think about the many hours of entertainment Fat's catalog has given me, the countless number of shows I went to because there was a Fat band on it, and the number of new bands that they still turn me onto. Although I can't pinpoint Vinyl enthusiasm on just one label, Fat Wreck is responsible for many of the record collectors out there as they have not only been committed to the format but have made it extremely fun to collect by putting out 7" of the month clubs, extremely limited color vinyl, and inexpensive records. Much kudos to you Fat Wreck and here's hoping that we can count on another 14 years of great punk rock to come. Note that for many of the titles, I only picked up 1's and 2's. I will get more as they sell out. I just wanted to warn you to pick up a copy while you can.
