akross
I casually asked this in the Revelation Records response thread and I think it got lost. The whole issue of only a certain amount of music fitting on a side of a record is a bit confusing... I understand that there is only a limited amount of physical space, and you can only fit so much, but if about 20-25 minutes can fit on a side, then how can albums that exceed 70 minutes fit on one piece of vinyl? My confusion comes from the fact that The Cure's Disintegration is always shown as a single LP and the album clocks in at 72:20.
patron
I was thinking about this earlier, Against Me! - SFAFC is 2xLP at 47 minutes, but The Strokes - First Impressions of Earth is a single LP at 52 minutes.

manicdogbert
the US pressing of Stereolab's Emperor Tomato Ketchup is a single LP and it clocks in at about 52 minutes. 26 minutes each side. and it sounds just like you'd expect it. crappy. ideally, you should only put about 20 minutes on each side. otherwise you compromise sound quality. vinyljunkie
you can really fit a TON onto a record if you really wanted to. but the longer it is the quieter and tinnier it ends up being. The shorter time, the deeper/wider the grooves can be cut, allowing for more bass and a better/truer sound.
