As part (widely recognized throughout the Sub Pop offices as one of the best parts) of the second annual Record Store Day, Sub Pop will release limited-edition 45s from Flight of the Conchords, Blitzen Trapper, Obits, and Vetiver, as well as an 18-track CD featuring a live set from Iron & Wine’s 2005 tour in support of Woman King. These special releases will be available at over 700 independently owned record stores in the US on April 18th, 2009. To find a participating store, go to: http://www.recordstoreday.com/venues.

Limited-Edition 45s & 18-Track CD:

All but one of the tracks found on these four, limited-edition 7” singles are previously unreleased. The Flight of the Conchords 7” includes “Pencils in the Wind” and “Albi the Racist Dragon,” two tracks from Season 1 of the HBO hit series, Flight of the Conchords in an edition of 3,000. The Blitzen Trapper single, “War Is Placebo” b/w “Booksmart Baby,” is two songs recorded as part of the Furr sessions. The Vetiver single features two songs recorded during the Tight Knit sessions: “Wishing Well” and “Pay No Mind” (this b-side was originally released as an iTunes bonus track with the Tight Knit album). The Obits single is “I Can’t Lose” b/w a cover of the Graham Nash song “Military Madness,” both of which were recorded during sessions for their debut album I Blame You. The Blitzen Trapper, Vetiver and Obits 45s available on Record Store Day are each editions of 1,500. All four of these singles are pressed on colored vinyl (black is one of the colors) and come handsomely packaged in die-cut chipboard sleeves with inner dust sleeves made from posters we found in our warehouse.

Sub Pop will also release an 18-track live set from Iron & Wine’s Woman King tour, recorded at the NorVa in Norfolk, Virginia on June 20th, 2005. This live CD features die-cut packaging and a dust sleeve that replicates Sub Pop’s 2009 Record Store Day 45s in a size more appropriate for CDs.
