xfedupx
Stupid question, but did you make an admin password at any point? When this happened to me and the password prompt came up, I thought I was fucked because I didn't remember what it was or could have been, but since I never made one, all I had to do wwas press enter. xfedupx
Also, did XP come with the computer or did you have an install disk?

mediocore
If you're not even getting XP to load, it's gonna be a pain. Try and borrow someone's XP disc and repair the current install. What's the BSOD error code say?
andrew13
the BSOD wasn't every staying up, it'd flash and go restart. i got discs got it working again. actually didn't need them, just needed to hit f10 and go to the recover partition. my comp is now being upgraded from XP SP1 though and most my programs that i had installed were fucked up, so need to redo all that crap. andrew13
installed 14 windows updates when it shut down and it was working fine, took a nap for a couple hours and now it comes on as soon as i plug the power (without touching the on/off button) but the video never shows up and the power button never lights up. checked all the connections and they seemed fine. so tomorrow i'm going to tear the whole thing apart and clean and reconnect everything. pain in the ass. andrew13
desktop. HP Pavilion a350e. i've had it for years and replace most the stuff inside it several times. no clue what it's fucked up now. tried another monitor, checking cables and connections, and all that shit. even tried hooking it into the onboard graphics instead of the card and got nothing. If it's not even powering up now, there's a good chance it's either: 1.) A dead hard drive (is it making a clicking sound?) 2.) Dead power supply (are the fans starting?) 3.) Dead CPU (this just happened to me; followed by the dead HDD) 4.) Faulty stick of RAM (this is less likely, but you never know)
andrew13
it's not the first 2 for sure. not sure about the others. still getting nothing out and i've just about gutted the tower besides essential things. thanks for the suggestions though. hopefully i can get a friend to look at it in a few days.
