daniel
Menos El Oso. It came in one of those enormous boxes, but within the enormous box... was an LP mailer. I definitely lol'd. Also they put a rubber band around the sealed records, presumably to prevent the spine from slicing open. It arrived in mint condition, I just thought it was funny. Never seen that before. martyk36
I ordered 2 records from bestby.com and they were shipped the same way. actually, there was no LP mailer but they had this huge bubble wrap above the records.....actually was kind of nice that they took so much time to package everything like that. circlingvultures
The 1 single lp i got from them came shrink wrapped to a piece of cardboard which was then placed in the bottom of a box that's about the size of a stereo receiver. came in fine shape so i was happy. still, pretty odd. mclz
did you buy it from amazon or a sellers store on amazon, because i've never bought a record straight from amazon, but i've bought records through amazon user's stores so they were packed perfectly fine in lp mailers. Guest
Amazon is notorious for putting small items in insanely large boxes with tons of padding.
arnoldlayne
I have a theory that one their first day somebody at Amazon messed up the box order and they've been trying get rid of thousands of them ever since.
bmsaareagles
when i ordered "Them Crooked Vultures" straight from amazon they shipped it the same way. It worked really well and the record was perfect, plus i got a free huge box!
gumbercules
at least they are putting them in lp mailers now inside the big box. the only other time i ordered from amazon they just put the lp in the giant box with a bunch of the those air pillows. the jacket got bent to shit in there. sunna
this is because the people that work in the amazon warehouse have crazy quotas where they have to pack 130 items an hour, so shit just gets thrown in a huge box. read about it here: http://www.technomadia.com/2009/12/inside-amazon-coms-coffeyville-warehouse/ if you want your records packaged nicely, buy them from a real record store or a distro that specializes in records. tylerrtv
haha i just got a record from FYE.com that came in an LP mailer inside a larger box. i was so confused when i went to go get the mail because i hadn't ordered anything that would fit well within the big box. Guest eriathomas
I hate how amazon uses big boxes for everything. All the games I order come in a box that could fit like 8-10 dvd cases, and they just through in a huge air pad.

technomadia
Greetings all.. this is Cherie from Technomadia, one of the Amazon.com workers referenced above. My partner and I were actually seasonal temp workers there, partly to just check the operation out during our travels. I was one of the packers .. and I tell you, packaging LPs was most frustrating. Amazon simply didn't provide boxes to us on our line suitable for packaging them (or other similarly sized items - like calendars). We had about 15 different sized boxes in our little packing area, and that was it. You found the smallest possible box to fit the item in and sent it down the line. So it wasn't that we were tossing items in big boxes to save time (actually, big boxes take MORE time, because we had to hand build them - whereas smaller boxes came to use pre-built) - but that suitable boxes weren't provided to us. On the outside of your Amazon.com box should be a 'rate this package' URL. I recommend going there and letting Amazon know you'd more appreciate better suited packaging for your items. Best wishes, - Cherie (who is glad her temp gig at Amazon is done )
