drunkenthird
i was reading texts on the Ancient Greek form of democract, Direct Democracy and found it interesting that Plato was against the idea that a common man can govern just as well as a politician or other public offical. sgoodcore
well, yeah. average joe citizen doesn't know shit about shit. you shouldn't be running for anything unless you have the right knowledge base. Some would argue in the US' political system the right knowledge base is equivalent to extreme influence by outside interests.
skumbucket
how so? you can extensively study foreign policy, political science, and large-scale economics without being unduly influenced by anyone but post-secondary professors. granted, anyone who actually decides to enter the political system will be subject to plenty of interest from corporations and special interest groups, but i'm sure there are plenty that COULD avoid having those influences drive their decision-making when it comes down to a vote.
