kirbypuckett
Google TV was announced today. It should be out this fall. Looks pretty cool too. http://gizmodo.com/5543689/google-tv-combines-tv-android-and-all-of-the-internet
benchwarmer
I want something that does that AND can connect to my network and stream the tv/movies I have on my hard drive.

I'm not sure why companies continue to get the set-top box deal wrong. But Google and Apple both have. For me at least, it needs to the ability to rent, buy, stream, and store movies/video and music. It needs to plug-in to my TV and record shows. It needs to be able to push that recorded content to an external hard drive. I'd love integration in to a Netflix-type service and apps but neither of those things matter as much.

scotterson
It needs to be able to push that recorded content to an external hard drive. Agreed. It seems simple enough. I don't know why this isn't standard on any DVR type box these days. I want to be able to watch recorded content on my computer and downloaded/ripped content on my TV. ihprstl
I just want something that I can pay for the channels I actually watch. Fox Sports Midwest, Food Network and Discovery Channel. The other 97 channels in my subscription I could give a shit about and I have to pay $60 a month to watch 3 channels...
lifebystereo
Just heard about this at work - apparently it's cool from a business perspective as well because you can get an ad on it for as low as twenty bucks.

I think that's a bit farther off given the control cable and satellite companies seem to have.
mediocore
I'm going to try and get on the beta for this.
akross
Kind of cool, but I am getting rid of cable at the end of the month. I'll keep an eye on this though.
kirbypuckett
If it can't function as a HTPC that access my media as well then I have no use for this device. But I like the potential here.
Guest eriathomas
I doubt there will ever be a fully functioning HTPC set-top out of the box, since every is worried about piracy and the like. This is pretty interesting though.
roadmonkey
Well if it's running Android I'm sure it'll only be a matter of time before someone creates an app or hacks it to become a HTPC Any word on what the max resolution it can output will be?
