oakland Posted July 24, 2011 Share Posted July 24, 2011 Glad to see New Orleans records stores are still kicking. After the hurricane one of my favorite shops closed and moved to Austin. The owner said he was fine (located in the French Quarter) but all his customers lost their collections so they just quit collecting. I heard similar stories about other stores too. So good. Used to be my favorite place to go record shopping when I lived in Alabama. Actually it was just my favorite place period when I lived in Alabama. Not much going on there. I know that guy's place in the Quarter on Decatur. Such a small place, but wall-to-wall records. I went in there a number of times. There's a few places still open after Katrina (The Mushroom (Uptown), Jim Russell's Records (on Magazine), and Louisiana Music Factor (in the Quarter near Canal Street) but for the most part it's a bunch of new stores opened. My favorite places in the city are: Skully'z on Bourbon (in the gay district) Euclid (in the Bywater) Domino Sound Shack (in the Marigny) Skully'z was around before Katrina but the others are new.
