xjustinxschwierx Posted December 19, 2011 Share Posted December 19, 2011 The Heat Tape from Makanda, IL has signed on with Underground Communiqué Records for the release of their new eponymous 7”! This new four song single will be the bands follow up to their debut album, ‘Raccoon Valley Recordings’ which was released earlier this year on Red Scare. Fronted by Brett Hunter from the Copyrights/Dear Landlord, the band continues their lo-fi garagey sound that was the benchmark set on the debut. The songs have an effortless air to them and are stacked with infectious hooks that start with a casual, uncontrollable foot tapping along to the beat, quickly progressing to humming the tunes at any idle moment in the day and then into full on “obsesso mode.” These four songs are the perfect EP, there’s an ebb and flow to them and demand repeat listening. All the songs are kinda similar though. that's certainly true to some degree, but then again it's just punk rock...or at the very least, rock and roll, they're not attempting to re-write the book either. the band was born out of the idea of writing a song a day...so certainly some of the songs will end up similar until you listen to them on repeat for a couple hours and you discern the subtleties. It's really silly, I'll give you that...but they got an offer to do the tour that was, as far as I know, all expenses paid...because...wouldn't you?! These songs are a little more varied over the full length, a little, but what they're going for sound wise isn't something that lends itself to re-invention, I think these songs are amazing, but live the band has become ungodly great.
