N&B Podcast

Recommended Posts

there are several folks here who have been listening to these as they're posted up weekly, but I figure a few more may be interested since this week's podcast may appeal to the few psych heads around these parts as we're featuring Steve Krakow aka Plastic Crimewave, a local Chicago musician who does the Secret History of Chicago Music column in The Reader as well as putting out the Galactic Zoo Disc magazine through the Drag City label. This episode features unreleased music by his various bands as well as a completely unreleased cut by Canadian psych legends Simply Saucer.

The episode can be found here: http://itunes.apple.com/us/podcast/004-5-3-12-steve-krakow-plastice/id520376235?i=114508851

The N&B podcast is awesome. If you're one that's not really into the bands that are really popular on VC, then it's something you may enjoy.

Also, more of you should come check out his message board. It's still a small community but the more that sign up and start posting, the better (the nonsense that has been going on here does not happen over there so that's a big plus).

thanks for the good words dude, it's seriously appreciated.

the N&B Podcast is definitely a stand alone and not meant to rip off of the VC one - with us, we're finding creative folks from every walk in the Chicago underground and opening each episode to let them talk about what they do, what they love and what they think about while playing some of their favorite tracks. It's fairly city-specific but still fun nonetheless (if I can get over saying 'you know' chronically...)

About a month ago, we partnered up with Chicago Mixtape and are now running written interviews concurrently with podcasts. Pretty excited about it and we've seen our numbers begin to jump significantly. For those who went to Riot Fest, maybe you saw White Mystery play - if so (and even if not), check out our latest episode (034) and its companion interview over at ChiMT: http://www.chicagomixtape.com/calendar/interview/white-mystery-interview-podcast/

Great playlist this time out - MC5, Crime, etc, etc - tons of blown out trash!

Hopefully a couple of folks are into these - for Chicago folks, it's an interesting way to hear some off the beaten path creatives doing some rad stuff. After partnering with Chicago Mixtape, we've now also begun to partner up with Do312 who do a lot of events and ticket giveaways here in the city. Pretty exciting. Here are the last two week's worth of episodes:

It's the Notes and Bolts Weekend Edition! And here in episode 038, we hang out with Robert Loerzel and talk about writing, the ins and outs of journalism, his book Alchemy of Bones and the perils of turn of the century, early 1900's Chicago (hint: staying off of the rail tracks was key. Also, don't breathe in the air!)

Episode 038 with Robert Loerzel: http://notesandbolts.podomatic.com/entry/2012-09-28T23_00_00-07_00

October is now here, and welcoming in the sounds of the Fall, Melissa and Rebecca of Architecture drop in and talk about songwriting, the slow burn of the recording process and what's most likely going to happen when the world ends.

Episode 039 with Architecture: http://www.chicagomixtape.com/calendar/interview/architecture-interview-2/

Mid-week creeps upon us again and here at Notes and Bolts HQ, we hang out with Lauren and Jade of Staring Problem and talk about post punk jams, band formation and what it's like to have cooler parents than most!

Episode 040 with Staring Problem: http://www.chicagomixtape.com/calendar/interview/eyeballin-with-staring-problem/

SATURDAY! SATURDAY! So, hey, do you have an Instagram account? Do you like looking at pictures? If so, tune in and hear Mr. Daniel Fitzpatrick of the Chicago Community Darkroom, as he opines on all matters visual while a thundering metal soundtrack quakes beneath!

Episode 041 with Daniel Fitzpatrick: http://notesandbolts.podomatic.com/entry/2012-10-06T09_30_46-07_00

It's episode 042, and we hang out with Zaid and Amelia from Shapers and talk about old school electronics, home studio recording and what it is to aspire to David Bowie (or not?) - check it!
