duckula
I picked this up off Discogs last week for a decent price. It's in mint condition but the surface noise on the thing is awful. Does anyone else have experience of a bad pressing with this? Really disappointed as it's one of my favourite albums of all time.
atarirec
It's been several years since last played. I'll listen to my copy tonight and report back if there are any issues....

Really disappointed as it's one of my favourite albums of all time. if it wasn't sealed, it's not in mint condition. it's either been played a ton, or needs a good brushing/cleaning. just cos you don't see any damage, doesn't mean the grooves sound good. achillesstand7
I found this used a year or so ago, and it sounds a lot better than the Plain Recordings version I already had (which I thought didn't have the best sound).
atarirec
duckula... I purchased this LP new upon it's release in 1998, and lo... after playing my beloved (favorite) Elliott Smith LP once again this evening, it indeed has surface noise throughout (always had). Never bothered me a bit though... however... I'm now considering a SpinClean test; last I used it for this particular reason was my Girls LP which had a ton of surface noise (supposedly the release agent from the stamping process causes this), which did the trick. jpearin
My girlfriend bought me a sealed copy last x-mas - no surface noise whatsoever. I'd clean it to see if that helps. I've never heard the actual Plain Recordings distributed pressing, although I have a test of it. That's always sounded real good. I'd eventually like to pick up one of the white copies. I just got the plain Figure 8 on red/blue #8/500. Haven't had a chance to listen to it yet. Really want a Bong Load pressing of that.
