"Static" is the opening track off of Videotape's 2012 effort, "This Is Disconnect" and it's a barn burner! This is the first in a new monthly lathe series that we will be unveiling featuring limited edition lathe cut 7"s by Chicago artists. Each will be available for one week through pre-order and then never again - not through the band's shows, not through their website or Notes and Bolts', nor anywhere else. So don't sleep! To explain the nature of these: Lathe cuts are short run vinyl records that are cut in real time one by one - these are not factory produced records ala larger pressing plants. Each one will be $11 with shipping included (or $8 if yr in the city and want to pick up). Why are these somewhat pricey? Because each one is hand cut in real time one by one, the process of producing this run of records is a longer one - if 63 people order copies, the person cutting this will be hearing 'Static' 63 times. Each record will also be packaged in a hand made sleeve made from transparency sheets and personalized with the record's number (13/63, for example) along with the name of the record's owner. These are essentially art objects, which is why they're a couple of bucks more than a normal $5 seven inch. ( Picture listed isn't the actual Lathe. It is merely just for reference to show you what the lathe will look like - it is a clear cut poly carbonate square and NOT a black or other colored vinyl record. Jared mentioned to me earlier that we're working out a way for you to get ahold of one. we're really excited about this new series and are lining up a ton of great artists around Chicago to take part. AND we're charging a few bucks less than most do when they're releasing on this particular format. most lathe cuts are 13+, whereas we're doing it for 10 shipped in the US and 20 outside of the country. Also hand numbering the sleeves and printing the names of each buyer on each copy to not only personalize the records further, but to hopefully help deter flipper scum. We'll have the next one week pre-order for the next installment in the series up next Thursday. The current lathe will be back in our hands by the third week of March and we'll be shipping them out, promptly. Thanks for ordering!
