alk_t3
time for a new turntable. trying to make me mind up £400 for a new project esprite(sb) complete.. colour of my choice.. or pay extra and go for a slight seconds new rega rp6..(white) no cartridge? if go for the second what cartridge? Ortofon 2M blue? nagaoka mp-150 mm? also if i went down the rp6 route would i need spacers for the above cartridges? rega says....... Rega as a rule do not believe in use of spacers to correct VTA.There rule is if the cartridge measures more than 16 mm from top cartridge body to stylus tip, a spacer could be used, however not required. thanks for any help. slinch
Depends on where you're buying the used RP6 from. If it's from a hi-fi store/a reputable seller, then it's a no brainer, go for the Rega. Add a Rega Elys cart and you've got a killer combo.
alk_t3
yeah comes from a store with a 24 month warranty. was thinking its a bargain...slight seconds(bit of concern) anyway hearing bad reviews of the Elys cart but that could be just personal taste i guess? how does it compair to the orfoton blue or mp-150? kannibal
With an RP6 I'd recommend the bronze over the blue. But there are many good choices depending on budget. And if you are considering the rp6, don't buy the carbon. It is a step down, in this case.
alk_t3
thanks...have looked at the bronze but out me budget for now....looking at around £160 mark....blue,,,,mp-150...or maybe a goldring?
slinch
What phono are you using? The really good value for money Goldring carts are a bit over your budget (like the g1012gx or gl2500). For that budget check out Grado Prestige Gold1 as well, killer cart. I currently have a Grado Silver (a model below the Gold) as a stand-in cart on an older version of the tonearm that's on the RP6 and they go great together. Really couldn't expect better at the price.

bluedeni
I have the RP6 and love it. I use an Exact 2 with it. I got a really good deal on it. For a non Rega cartridge though you are probably going to need a spacer.
swemoll
I have the RP6 and love it. I use an Exact 2 with it. I got a really good deal on it. For a non Rega cartridge though you are probably going to need a spacer. Rega doesn't believe in spacers cause they believe you should use their carts You'll most likely need a spacer. The Rega carts are 14mm tall. Anything significant over that and you will need a spacer.
alk_t3
ummm still looking...do you think the rega Exact 2 cartridge...is worth £250? or would i do better going for another catridge plus would have to buy spacers and probs a lower profile counterweight? (hood issues)??
swemoll
Totally think the Exact is worth every penny. And yes, you totally will run into hood/dust cover issues when using any sort of arm spacer.
bluedeni
If you switch to a counterweight that hangs underneath the tonearm like groovetracer than you would be ok otherwise you will hit the dust cover. Also yes the exact really fits the table and is worth it.

swemoll
Sounds like it. It goes for $600 new here in the US (by itself).
