taylo234
So I got a Pro-Ject Debut Carbon, Yamaha AS-500, and a set of Wharfedale Diamond 10.1's. I had an issue when I first got my Carbon that the sound would go muffled occasionally when playing records for a while, then it would just go back to normal eventually. It was under warranty so I swapped it for a new one and everything was going good until recently, I have the same issue. I'm starting to think it might have something to do with the Yamaha AS-500, cause I am 100% positive its not the wharfedales, cause I use them for my computer and ps3 and have never had an issue before. Is there something with the table that could wrong? Is this some sort of common issue with a simple fix? Any help would be greatly appreciated! A few key notes: 1) Speakers aren't anywhere near the carbon, nor on the same table. 2) Nothing is on the table with the carbon besides a lamp. 3) It's different records, not just one. xxmartinxx
I assume this doesn't happen with other types of audio (CD, mp3 player, whatever)?
taylo234
I assume this doesn't happen with other types of audio (CD, mp3 player, whatever)? No, it's just the record player :/. Could it be the phono input on the Yamaha that could possibly be messed up? The reason I say that is because when it goes into that muffled sound, if I move the needle back before it was muffled, it will still be muffled and just eventually go out of it. I can't imagine getting two fault Debut Carbon's in a row.
Tardcore
can you beg/borrow/steal another turntable or phono-preamp to test with?
taylo234
All I have lying around is a shitty ion table..but it never had this issue before. I'm still not entirely convinced its the preamp though because all the other inputs work just fine.
Tardcore
The ion should be fine. Plug it into the phono input on your amp and see if you get a similar issue. At that point you can at least eliminate your turntable as the problem.
