burntwolf
Ok, I'm not sure who would know more about SA than me, but I'm trying to track down the info on this Matt (Smith or Sherwood?) solo LP that I bought at a show circa 2000. It was a Gilman St. show and the 2nd pressing of Chorus of One was probably just out. So that puts it around 12/00, so maybe it was early 2001. Anyway, they had a sign at the merch table for Matt's solo LP, limited to 100. White labels, no sleeve. I've never seen anymore info on it anywhere else. http://burntwolf.com/index.php?title=Matt_Sherwood_Solo_Tour_LP It's a full album (not just track 1/track 2). mclz
did about 10 minutes of different google phrases, couldn't find anything. the only thing i could think of is just send a message to the band via myspace or his myspace ( http://www.myspace.com/deepzilla )
burntwolf
yea i did that. i've e-mailed them through their website before and through the Ask Sherwood deal and never heard back.
scottheisel
I thought it was Matt Smith's solo record, not Matt Sherwood's.
burntwolf
I thought it was Matt Smith's solo record, not Matt Sherwood's. certainly possible. i updated the burntwolf page for it since it's unclear.
xjustinxschwierx
i have a test pressing of this ...he gave a bunch away during a early SA tour. I'll have to dig it out and see if I still have it and listen to it again... the one i got was on black with white labels...i have no info at all on it eiher. sorry. Eric from SA lives in Chicago and is playing with one of the label bands (four star alarm) now so when I see him i'll try to get some info for you
burntwolf
there must have been 100 test pressings cuz they're all black w/ white labels as far as i know. i thought we paid for them, but my buddy said they were giving them away at the show we were at too. maybe free w/ purchase at the merch table or something. or maybe i just bought a shirt so i remember forking over cash. but, anyway, wow, i just listened to it again to rip it. um, let's just say this may be ebay bound soon. real soon. but, so it is matt smith you think? there is a bit on the b-side that mentions matt 'shithead' sherwood, so i was back to thinking it was him. burntwolf
ok, i got some more info from eric of SA through myspace: That record is by Matt Sherwood... I think it was recorded around 1993/94... and was recorded on a 4-track in his home. and that's all i've got so far.
burntwolf
ok, more info coming in from matt: i'll see what i can dig up. it's been a long while. i pressed 300 copies, all with white labels that were hand decorated. all the jackets were also handmade, but i think only 50 or so jackets ever existed. the band is called Mediocre the record is called Average Joe i made a rubber stamp for that info and the record title is encoded in a clever calculus joke. most of the music was recorded while i was living in seattle in '92. every instrument on the record was played or sequenced by me except for the fiddle on Eulogy for Fiddler's Green, my then-GFs voice on 100% (not a sonic youth cover, btw,) and the choir on (everybody has) dreads. the tracks are (from memory) Side A starts with by design (a rites of spring cover) the song with piano is called fluke the choir is on (everybody has) dreads the terrible mellow singer/songwriter song is called Nada Side B 100% the song with fiddle is Eulogy for Fiddler's Green the song that sounds like Thomas singing is Wreck #3 the short punk song is Fawning and Servile that's all i remember.
