Yeah, but then looking at our crates / shelves and realizing what we own balances it out. In the past, I've looked at my other belongings and thought "what a waste" for a lot of stuff, but you could show me my "least favorite" (a term I've recently come to hate because it doesn't make sense, but that's a different topic) record and I still wouldn't regret buying it. - Jeff Yeah, good point.
-
Why boo?! Why isn't more tape produced? Digital age? - Jeff I would just be guessing but digital age seems right. Doing things digitally is much, much cheaper and the equipment is easier to come by.
-
I think that might be some kind of depressing, finding out how much we all spend on our habit.
-
Very true but tape is becoming harder and harder to come by. Just ask Tweedy from Wilco. He hordes it and re-uses it because its a bitch to find.

There's so much more depth to everything. I don't hear cheesey crap like I do when I hear FOB and I certainly don't hear Queen like I do when I listen to MCR. There's actual musicians who write music, it seems, for themselves.

Sunny Day Real Estate - Pillars 7" Planes Mistaken for Stars - Spearheading the Sin Movement 7" (on clear)

I know No Idea has a big page devoted to all their releases. Dim Mak has the same for theirs.

What was your first ever record purchase?
sgoodcore replied to gimonsarfunkel's topic in Vinyl Collective Message Board
My first was Sunny Day Real Estate - The Rising Tide -
whoa, thanks for this, getting one from insound now! No problem, I've just got my fingers crossed there's no funky out of stock message or anything.

What was your best deal/find?
sgoodcore replied to gimonsarfunkel's topic in Vinyl Collective Message Board
I picked up SDRE - Rising Tide and SDRE - Live at my local Amoeba Records (hollywood) for like $15. I was pleased. -
That's about where I stand.

records everyone else seems to want, but you don't
sgoodcore replied to robotnerd's topic in Vinyl Collective Message Board
Its painful to have people say they don't like bands they've never listened to. -
On ebay last night? I bid on that, obviously I lost. Got Up in Them Guts 1st press for $9ppd not bad. Also just scored Avail /young pioneers split 7" for $5. Yep, won it on eBay for $16 or so. I was bidding on this as well. bummer. the seller seemed kind of sketchy though. I hope not, that would suck...

What is the favorite record in your collection??
sgoodcore replied to adambomb's topic in Vinyl Collective Message Board
Ooo I forgot one, I have a copy, well 5 actually, of Mare Vitalis. A blue and white swirl one black and yellow, totally sweet. -
What is the favorite record in your collection??
sgoodcore replied to adambomb's topic in Vinyl Collective Message Board
I think its a tie between I Lied My Face Off, Planes Mistaken for Stars S/T on white, and Maybe I'll Catch Fire on all orange. -
I stick to a budget but its not overly strict. I have a general budget for money I want to spend on whatever. I allocate a certain amount to vinyl, both new and via eBay. If I want to spend more, I usually can but that means less eating out or something like that. I do mine via a credit card so there's no real carrying over. I make small purchases outside of the budget structure but those are limited to $25-40 a month.

Excell spreadsheets for organizing your records
sgoodcore replied to a topic in Vinyl Collective Message Board
I do: Band, Album, Size, Catalog #, Record Label, and Notes. I use the notes field for listing the color and the number pressed. I don't care about the year and if I did I can just use notes. -
speaking of white whales...

Is that the black with orange labels? -
Does anyone like popsike.com?
sgoodcore replied to sgoodcore's topic in Vinyl Collective Message Board
The only catch at this point would be figuring out a clean way to get the information. eBay seems to have their own toolset for doing what I'm talking about but they charge big bucks for it. -
I hadn't heard of popsike.com until I started using this board and picked-up collecting vinyl again. That said I find it kind of clunky. It does present good information but I don't think it presents it well. Being a computer programmer and a record collector I was thinking you could take the data they collect, remove the outlying sales (remove a sale for $150 on a record that never sold for more than $50), and give you good data on how much a record is most likely worth. I was also thinking it would be nice to be able to estimate the value of your collection based on the data. Finally, I was thinking it would be nice to be able to get emails about prices on the rise or decline.

both chiefwahoo and conoley would awesome to deal with when selling.
