  1. i don't know about the iPhone. not quite sure why but i just think they're a little overrated. i've used one a few times and sure, they're fun and all, but i just dunno.... i've read a few not so great reviews about the N97 being run on the Symbian platform which is slightly outdated. can anyone tell me in simple terms what the hell this means?!?
  2. so i'm looking at getting a new phone, tossing up between a Nokia N97 or E71 or possibly an iPhone. has anyone had any good/bad/indifferent experiences with either of these that they'd be willing to share? i'm leaning more towards the N97 though... thanks!
  3. i sent you a pm last time you posted about this but never heard anything back.... still interested so maybe re-check my pm and let me know
  4. those interviews were used to give the events context. if those weren't in there, we wouldnt know what the situation was as the film started. sure, they could've star wars'd or blade runner'd it and actually put text describing..THIS is what happened before what you are about to see. or they could have had shown a ten minute scene with a bunch of old government guys sitting around "evaluating" the situation. but it didn't and i thought it was an interesting choice. it also goes with the idea that big events in the movie are intercut with "news" footage and the event actually "happening" in front of us (if that makes sense). yeah i get why they did it that way, i just don't think it was done well is all... i wouldn't say unanswered, but i think i see how this complaint could be found. the ending of the movie is very open, as there's not a definite end to the story. yeah, christopher leaves and wikus becomes a prawn, but i think the main thing is that wikus never finds redemption from the humans. logically, the government would be on the search for him, and there's a reason he's gone into hiding. it's definitely not a hollywood ending, as its pretty obvious that this story is not over. they left it wide open for a sequel, but i really hope they don't. at first i was somewhat disappointed with the ending, but as i let it brew in my mind, i realized how great it is. ok so maybe there wasn't TOO many unanswered questions, but i like resolution and no loose ends for me to ponder after a movie. did christopher come back for wikus? did wikus survive as a prawn? did wikus' wife wait for him? i just thought these were pretty standard things that should have been answered as they formed the most part of the movie. i don't like that they left it open for a sequel because i don't think it's a good candidate for a sequel. i think that the one movie would have been enough (and not just because i didn't dig it that much). but, just my opinion
  5. sorry, i'm with thebiglebowski. i didn't like it. granted, i'm not a sci fi fan but i thought i'd give this one a chance. sure, the alien kid was awesome. i liked that it was set in south africa for a change of scenery. the blowing up people to next to nothing was cool. but that's about it. the transformation of wikus from an almost comical character in the beginning to a desperate and sad but then partly heroic character didn't flow well, and the amount of times he said "fuck" or "fucking" just made me want to laugh at him. it wasn't believable. cutting to and from the interviews with the "experts" was almost like one of those mock tv interview shows making fun of some outrageous issue and i didn't think it fit the rest of the movie well at all. just gave the whole film a kind of comical and mocking tone. and i'm also with robotnerd regarding the whole voodoo thing - it just wasn't believable. then the ending just left too many things unanswered
  6. By the end of high school I hated the place and couldn't imagine going to university. But then I found a course in sound engineering and took that. It was 12 months and I loved it but once I finished I couldn't get consistent work. A lot was volunteering or shitty pay for mostly labour work. Three years later, I'm a Legal PA. It's alright for the moment but I know I don't want to do it the rest of my life. I'd like to get back into the music industry eventually. So I say, if there's something you really want to do, you'll get there eventually. You always need an alternative so give something that you can bear for awhile a shot and see where it takes you
  7. not interested in selling your red crimson are you?
  8. or just super super bored like you were.... but lame is also a possibility haha

  10. i'm keen, i just need to make sure that my tape deck still works... i'm in australia though, do people mind shipping here? i can do an all-australian version? lol
  11. yeah no worries, thanks! in the meantime, i shall get reading or re-reading
  12. i know i'm more than a little late getting to this but if there's another group starting up or someone drops out or something, i'd be keen to get involved. only problem is the shipping (as with tom) - i'm in australia...
  13. i usually go by looks rather than rarity. if the ones i like the look of are more readily available, so be it. but i think that the black redder looks the best with the cover. i'll be so stoked once i get this......
  14. what about the dude(s) who did this? http://www.dailytelegraph.com.au/news/puppys-ears-tail-cut-off-with-scissors/story-e6freuy9-1225751035756 (sorry i know it's a little off the topic of the thread but this makes me angry)
  15. Same here. me too. lol this has to be my favourite thread of all time. let's call this venting instead of complaining, then we won't feel like hypocrites... i work at a law firm. my coworkers also complain about the stupidest things, like the printer running out of paper or the computer system being down temporarily. the printer doesn't have an endless supply of paper, believe it or not, and technology does still have its faults. there's nothing anyone can do about it. i could go on but that might make me just as bad.... just bugs me is all....
  16. pmd a couple days ago but no reply........
  17. that's cool. i had a chipmunks cover album on vinyl, which i still have. shit was the rad. my parents had elton john and the eagles and stuff like that on vinyl when i was a kid so thats what i listened to growing up. once i got into collecting my own vinyl, i inherited all their records and the stereo system with the turntable. as for my first record, it was either a second hand copy of lou reed - transformer or incubus - morning view.
  18. i have a morning view which i think is 4xLP gatefold. i havent had it out in ages and the more i think about it, i think it might be 2xLP. anyway, i picked it up from a dick smith powerhouse store here in oz quite a few years back now for maybe 20 bucks or something. love the album to death
  19. ditto that. first ones that come to mind for me are rise against - built to last (sick of it all) and alkaline trio - wash away (TSOL)
  20. The image didn't come through, but This Is England is fucking fantastic. Seriously, that film is so under appreciated. Good call. There are some amazingly nuanced performances, as you suggest. And great music, for anyone who's into second-wave ska. so that's what that was.. i'm with you guys, movie was fantastic. not in an enjoyable happy kind of way but in an appreciation for a well written and played out performance kind of way.
  21. Ohhhh...So close. The judges were looking for, "What a bunch of crying bitch babies". this brought massive lolz....
