Love the trade for mezzaros - o donnell signing was surprising - but hes a good 6/7 option. Shelly is interesting - does this mean goodbye carcillo? carcillo is a better hockey player i think, i dunno - we shall see. Coburn at 3.2m is a good signing - again shocked as hell it happened after the trade for the 4m Mezz. I'm waiting for the other shoe to drop, still think the flyers are going to be involved in a blockbuster deal. still need a goalie and a winger. leighton is fine for a backup - both in realty or as a backup plan if the flyers can't complete a trade for someone better. you have to think carle is on the move (sadly - i like him as a player) but a top six of pronger, kimo, mezz, coburn, carle, o donnell is ridiculous. i called the 4.5m for hamhuis, and love the 3rd rounder from pitt right now. Michalek is a good signing but the pens need a puck moving D badly. For some reason I think/hope kovy signs with the blues. Slightly risky but it depends on the situation. for one - Ryan parent blows so I'm glad he is gone either way. Being a cup contending/big market team helps as well. For instance I could see people being happy to have their rights traded to toronto. Similar situation as the flyers a few years ago, a big market team with a new and aggresive gm who isn't afraid to pay money. In those cases I don't think there is much risk. Of course it depends on who you give up. In this case losing parent doesn't matter for the flyers. Speaking of the leafs though, drabley - what are your thoughts of panuef. It's not as simple as picking one player you'd rather have. As said above Carter can net you a very big return. Also, you have to look at salary (hartnell is cheaper) you also need to realize hartnell has a no trade clause - Carter does not. Finally - flyers have a logjam at center (Richards briere Carter giroux) all of those four should arguably get top 6 mins And flyers don't have good depth at wing. Leino playing like he did was a miracle and a huge help. Right now the best wingers are gagne, leino, hartnell, jvr gagne is falling, jvr isn't ready for top 6 mins for a few years. So taking all things into consideration it would be easier and better to trade Carter than hartnell
