  1. Not certain it's something else but if you have problems with the audio wires it shouldn't be popping fuses in your pre amp so I'd be surprised if that was the case, and I assume these are power fuses that are popping?

If you are popping power fuses in any piece of kit the problem pretty much always lies in that bit of kit not somewhere else

    1. is this really an upgrade?
    2. which turntable better fits my gear?
    3. why has the RPM4 been discontinued? Any serious flaws?

I'll start with a question before giving some answers, why can't your guy fix the Lenco?

    1. Simple answer probably, longer answer depends on ho much the surcharge is, the RPM4 has a better arm than the Lenco but no by that much and all things considered if the main bearing on the Lenco is good it should be better than the Project and the same should be true of the motor but the Project is a lot newer so as they both stand now the bearing and motor on the Lenco could both be past their best, they are pretty bullet proof but time can be cruel if not looked after.

With Lenco's it's generally the idler drive tables that are desirable so the L62 being a belt drive counts against it as far as Lenco's are concerned.

    2. Whichever one best suits your ears is more the question

    3. Normal manufacturer obsolescence nothing more so no major flaws that I can think of.

if it were me I'd try both and see which I'm happiest with sound wise. If the Lenco sounds better than the Project then get it fixed somewhere else if your can't or won't do it.

The upgrade path with the Lenco is easier if you are that way inclined and it sounds like basic wiring issues with the Lenco so a rewire of the audio wiring with some decent cable would yield an upgrade in itself anyway.

I expect your pre amp fuse popping is something else but completely.

My 2004 US has both (Change Your Mind for Track 8, GIR&R as a bonus track) so hopefully the US repress is similar.

Correct the UK vinyl has 11 tracks in total and the US vinyl has 12 tracks in total, the difference apart from running order being the US version has Change Your Mind, this was the main reason I bought both at the time

according to the track listing on the amazon US preorder it lists Change Your Mind.  I guess we'll see

This one is different again, it has 11 tracks with the same layout as the original US release except that it omits GIR&R. It seems to be the CD track listing split into 2 sides, so has someone made a mistake in the Amazon page? or is it a 3rd track listing?

The UK one is definitely remastered so the US one could have been as well and omitting GIR&R in the process? Too many questions for a Saturday morning.

Based on Allen's recommendation, I ordered a UK reissue this morning. I also preordered this unannounced US press. With the Bullmoose and Amazon pre orders up, I'll take the US press as confirmed until I hear otherwise. Hopefully the US will have Change Your Mind.

I don't think you'll be disappointed I'm very impressed with mine.

I'd be interested in what this US press actually is as well, If it does turn out to be a different press and someone wants to trade for a UK one I can easily get a another

    Allen... Don't support counterfeits.

Normally I'd agree and I don't but I started buying the various colours of this years ago on a whim and now because I've got that many I feel I've got to continue.

With the repress/remaster and considering it sounds so good I expect that will be the end of them now because for the last 10 to 12 years they've been satisfying a demand that can now be satisfied legally and for a lot less money as Island will have pressed a shed load of these and I expect will continue to do for a while, you quite often see these things re pressed in smallish numbers when a band has a new album to push that the record company is not sure of but not in this case.

Also the counterfeits have got steadily worse in quality in every department in the last couple of years so unless you are buying it to collect the various colours or to hang the actual record on the wall rather than the sleeve (because playing it isn't a good idea) buy the new repress, it sounds a lot better than all the counterfeits, better than the original US and UK releases and almost as good as the 7" box, I've been playing mine to death.

the only diff is the barcode  thats not enough to warret a new page. just a foot note.

Not sure about all the digital stuff but all the records are very different in many obvious and various ways but yes there can be some very bewildering reasons that dictate whether things are different or not on discogs

I was referring specifically to Allen's collection of 8,154 on Discogs.

It's 8164 now, Fathers day was good to me.

And there's 14 versions of this in my collection all different, I do wish they'd stop pressing the bloody thing in different bootleg colours though so I could stop buying them, I'm sure it's some sort of addiction now.

Yeah, I am not sure the great people of discogs are trustworthy haha. Both versions have issues reported, and people saying theirs is perfect. There is also a guy who is mad the record is just plain white and definitely not opaque. So, I take it with a few grains of salt haha. I hope everyone here's copy sounds good regardless of who pressed it.

Probably true although I'd expect less issues with Optimal.

As a point of interest my local independent said he had more trouble getting standard black than white, he asked for 20 of each, he got 20 white but only 4 black and as of Saturday all 24 were gone

Has anyone who purchased their copy through Rough Trade received theirs yet, and if so can confirm what pressing they received?

The one with the sticker over the barcode. Purchased instore.

Which is the Optimal one which you'd expect in Europe.

  9. If you haven't got one download a strobe disc from vinyl from Vinylengine, print it out and use that to see what really is or isn't running at the correct speed.

For this one go against my standard advice and trust your eyes and the power of alternating current powered electric light rather than your ears.

I ordered the orange, even the invoice specified the Govs ball exclusive, but I got a green instead. They seriously must've just filled orders with whatever color they had on hand. Not complaining though. I'm just glad I was able to get any colored version

Yup mine arrived today and yes exactly the same, invoice shows Governors Ball but I got Green, I don't mind which colour I'm just happy something arrived but I expect some will be complaining and whoever is having a nervous breakdown in shipping I doubt the pain is over yet.

  11. OK, best to get the obvious out of the way first. As Thomas said it could be any number of things.

Cartridges themselves don't tend to break unless something happens to them like a high load caused by shorts in the wiring somewhere or a problem with the phono input so the first place i would look is the stylus, is it worn? have a look with a good magnifier, is the contact from the stylus into the cartridge bad? take it out and use a bit of contact cleaner or sometimes just taking it out and putting it back in a couple of times will do it.

The other place to look is the connections within the turntable, I'm not sure if the auto function of the 1219 mutes the output but if so the mute might not be cancelling or the 1219 has internal phono connections so these could need a clean.

If you have a test meter unplug the cartridge and unplug the phono leads from the phono input on your amplifier and meter each core end to end and between each other, there should be negligible resistance in any core end to end and huge resistance between cores, if any of that is wrong then you need to trace all the way along the path for bad connections or breaks etc. If it is good then the problem is at the cartridge/stylus end

At that price and release date, it's possible it's a US press. I see the track listing says Indie Rock and Roll, but it could just be a cut and paste, or this US press will just use a different track listing than the OP. Just a thought. I have no idea what's going on.

Good point otherwise why so long between June 10th and August 26th? I'be be interested to see if this is the case.

I ordered Orange as well but whatever I'm getting is still over the Atlantic I guess so I'm very interested to see what arrives now.

I've wondered what your storage area looked like based on your Discogs.  I guess that's a little bit of it there.   I just assumed you had a warehouse.

I've seen a lot worse than mine on the internet, really compared to some I see I'm just an amateur.

I have a room in the house which has my main hifi and most of my records in it, the overspill records are boxed up in a spare room but yes it is all packed in with military precision just so that it all fits. This system isn't my main system by the way it's some kit I have on test so it's temporarily sitting in front of some of my record racks.

Just to show off a little, another picture of some of my records is the entrance into the vault vinyl collection contest in the galleries on the Third Man Vault pages.
