  1. Nice looking TD160, are the upgrades mostly cosmetic (Apart from the arm) or is anything done to the suspension, bearing or motor?

Thanks. I'm running a Music Hall Cruise Control 2.0 which improves motor performance and the solid mahogany plinth is both a cosmetic and sonic improvement. Other than that's it's the arm, wiring, refurb and setup that was done by VN.

  2. Curious to know what you think of the Sphinx V1 vs V2.  Did you try any other Rogue components up the chain for comparison?

I'm really happy with the V2. The two main things they said were improvements are clearly improved - lower noise floor and upgraded phono pre.

I didn't try any other Rogue Gear. What happened was some of my pots were really scratchy and the input selector was making a bad pop when I switched inputs so I was sending my V1 to them to service and instead we agreed to a deal where they send me V2 for a small amount of cash. Super great company.

My other latest purchase is this...

Vinyl Nirvana TD 160 Super (Midnight Edition).

It's gorgeous! and matches my new ATC's almost perfectly....

  3. I have a PM5004 for my second system and it's been great. Performs well with my Cambridge Audio S30s. But I agree with everyone else, you can't go wrong with any of those amps really.

As far as speakers go, I haven't heard those Wharfedales, but I'd steer clear of those Q Acoustics unless you're planning on running a sub too. I tried the 2020Is and was very disappointed. I really wanted to like them, but there was virtually no low end.

  4. I ordered the deluxe through Bullmoose at $27.97 and free shipping (all orders over $25). That makes it only a few dollars more than the standard 2LP when you figure in shipping cost. Sort of a no-brainer there. Plus, I like that Bullmoose doesn't immediately charge your account, a la Amazon.

Wow! I had ordered from SC directly and paid $37! Just canceled that and ordered from Bullmoose...

  5. This might be too off topic, but I'm curious what the people that post in this thread are listening to these records on...

Right now I've got a couple setups:

    Main

Clear audio Concept w/ Nagaoka MP-500 > Rogue Sphinx > Wharfedale Denton 80th's

    - this setup is pretty great, but sometimes a bit too revealing on bad/noisy pressings.

    Second

    Thorens TD 160 Super MKIV w/ Ortofon 2M Bronze > Marantz PM5004 > Cambridge Audio S30 and HSU STF-2

    - much more forgiving on the the bad/noisy pressings.

  6. I miss this thread being active - So here are a few things i've been listening to that I don't think have been posted (unless I missed them). Not all of them are available on vinyl though...  ;)

Perils - Benoit Pioulard + Kyle Bobby Dunn (vinyl)

Lee Noble - His newest, Un Look, didn't have a vinyl release, but his record, Ruiner, on Bathetic still has vinyl copies available.

Villages - Really good stuff. (vinyl available for both Bathetic releases)

Ian William Craig - I loved A Turn Of Breath, but just got around to listening to his newest, Cradle for the Wanting. It's Incredible. (both had vinyl releases)

The OO-Ray - I'd never listened to this guy before but I just saw his newest album, Empty Orchestra, on a year end list and it's stunning. (no vinyl)

Anyone else listening to anything new(ish) worth mentioning?
