  1. we've got it similar down here re: Aussie labels & vinyl. There's only a couple, maybe even only 1, pressing plant here, so the cheapest going rate here for an Aussie manufactured LP is $30. absolute minimum. Its the old 'supply and demand' adage. Of course, the US should have far cheaper prices, coz the market is there to support it. The price for this LP, whilst not that much higher for foreign buyers (relative to what we pay for domestic and imported vinyl), is still way overpriced though, and must be bordering on lunatic pricing for US buyers.

Whilst i love ma and pa stores and indie labels trying to get ahead, its thanks to Amazon that we ROW'ers can afford to buy vinyl. Its the shipping that kills it for me. I'd be prepared for $50ppd, but not with a further $20 shipping (all in USD mind, so add another 10% on for Aussies). amazon.co.uk at $AUD45 shipped is tempting...

  2. Hasn't Danzig pissed everyone off that he has worked with? Love the man's work, I have OGs of I and 4p, but damn if he seems to make it hard for people to work with him. He seems generally fairly amenable in interviews and such though.

  3. We tried this over on another board, and when it worked, it worked really well. you got a taste of what the other dude was into, and you had a bit of fun putting the art together for your contribution. Ppl seemed to grow cold on the idea pretty quick though. First couple of the trades went well but then ppl just kinda stopped doing it. It's a cool thing though.

  4. what if you hate what the person sends and then you get no enjoyment out of the tapes? aren't they basically going to waste at that point?

That's an unfortunate side effect I suppose, but Id like to think that it's about taking a punt on something that you might never have heard of. Yeah, we'll prolly get stuff we don't like, but we're only paying postage. I guess it's not about how much said tape is worth on the open market (got eBay and Discogs for that), it's more about the culture of sending stuff to ppl, opening dialogues and such. It used to work in the old days, before the internet... Haha!

I'd like to think traders would talk about things and send appropriate stuff.

...and if you don't like it, you can trade it off to someone else :) and they may well love it.

  5. Yeah, I know, kinda nothing to do with vinyl, but would anyone be interested in tape trading? I have an idea where we swap 3 tapes ( I can send 3 tapes without cases to anyone in the world for $6.45) with each other. It's not to get rid off yr old shit!, but it is to try and set up a genuine trading for new, current jams thing.

So, if you want to do this with me, let's do it.

    Two conditions though:

    1. Any genre except hip hop, rap, chart stuff

    2. New releases post 2007. I don't want yr old def leppard and Bon Jovi rubbish. Haha!

Other than that, if we have a chat and see what each other is listening to, we can tailor our random trades accordingly.

    Interested?

  6. Wish I lived stateside. I bought the VIP sub last year, and got a t-shirt for my $50. No freebies or anything. Kinda understandable really, due to the monstrous shipping down to me, and I couldn't take much advantage of the preorder exclusives, again, coz of the shipping, which always cost much more than the record itself (but never way over the top of actual shipping prices or anything). Never got any of the test presses either coz of time zone situation, they were always sold out by the time I got the emails. I harbour absolutely no ill-feeling towards JNR though; the shipping costs totally kill it for international subscribers. So yeah, unfortunately no sign up for me for this year.

  7. From soundgarden world:

This year, the band celebrates the 20th anniversary of this groundbreaking album with a special reissue in two deluxe versions outlined below and available on June 3, 2014 via A&M Records/UME. The Deluxe Edition is a 2-CD package featuring the remastered album along with disc two consisting of demos, rehearsals, B-sides and more. The Super Deluxe Edition is a 5-CD package featuring the remastered album, additional demos, rehearsals and B-sides and the fifth disc is the album mixed in Blu-ray ™ Audio 5.1 Surround Sound. The Super Deluxe Edition is incredibly packaged in a hardbound book with a lenticular cover, liner notes by David Fricke and newly reimagined album artwork designed by Josh Graham. It also features never before seen band photography by Kevin Westenberg.

A 2-LP gatefold of the original 16 vinyl tracks remastered on 200-gram vinyl in a gatefold jacket will also be made available. In addition, the Superunknown singles and associated b-sides with newly interpreted artwork sleeves by Josh Graham will be reissued on Record Store Day, April 19th, as a set of five limited edition 10″ vinyl records.

  8. Those flappy mailers suck. Most everything I get from Europe comes in those mailers (except from amazon). Thankfully rocket put a heap of card stiffeners in my mailer so my copies arrived almost perfect. I'm reluctant to use those even for my Aussie buyers so will always ask first. However, they do make the parcel so much lighter. Usually does mean the different between a $7 or a $14 domestic shipping charge.

Bloody great LP though. So glad I stumped up albeit the horrendous total cost.
