  1. So true. 3 days from Cali to NY, 10 days from Texas to NY. So much silliness.

It's not silly at all. Trucks have limited space. Priority and first class get the first seats on the bus. Any left over seats and media mail can board. But if the priority passenger load is high, media has to wait until the next bus and can only board until all the priority and first class passengers get their seats.

  2. Heads up, do not sell to michaeljosephamato on Ebay. He bought a record off me, it was delivered about an hour ago and he already sent me a return request with this message:

"Hello, I received the record today, but it is defective. Upon playing side A, track 6 skips for a few seconds. Side B of the record is warped, and the songs sound very distorted."

Correct me if I'm wrong but isn't it impossible for only one side of a record to be warped? That doesn't make much sense...It's very obvious this guy is bullshitting me considering I've played the record probably ten times with zero issues and I packed it like a tank like I do with everything I sell. Just save yourself the headache and block him now.

I'm guessing I'm going to have to bite the bullet and have him send me the item back and refund him to avoid a negative feedback? This is the first time this has happened to me on Ebay. I just hope he doesn't deliberately damage it and send it back, then I won't be able to resell it.

He could have a crappy TT like the AT-PL300 w/o tracking weight. Those things skip like crazy on certain records (2009 Epitaph reissues).

  3. It's not a black and white issue.

There is an asshole on eBay that snags up the Misfits BINs (when listed at good prices) and soon flips for 200%. He's partly responsible for the inflation over the past 3 years. This kind of professional flipping I completely despise.

As for selling something from your personal collection for more than you paid, I think that's absolutely fine. It is a market and it doesn't make sense to loose money unless you need space or are desperate (been there and done that many times). For me personally, I list items at prices that makes it worth it for me to let them go. If no one wants to buy them, that's fine. If they sell, that's fine.

I've purchased items at inflated prices many times. The true value of an item goes beyond what others have been willing to pay. You have to factor in how much you want it and how patient you are. Will you wait 10 years to get it at $10, or get it now for $100. Most records depreciate in value over time when they are no longer popular items.

    Professional flippers are scum.

    Personally flipping is absolutely fine.

  4. I'm flipping some records on eBay right now.

What happened was I spent a day going record shopping on Saturday. On Sunday, I spilled water over my wife's laptop, and now need to buy her a new computer. So I decided to list the new records I bought (not too attached to them). But I want letting go of these to be worth it. The starting bid is half their actual value.. but I paid much less. So everyone wins. Except the computer. But she gets a new one.

  5. Selling isn't going to be different for discogs than anyone else.

I'm talking about a special kind of prick that actually searches through submissions he knows nothing about an nitpicks any irregularities he can dig up.

For example, I collect Balzac. They have about 500 releases, here is my collection:

    http://music.geocities.jp/soaringmoon27/deeperblue.html

So I listed all their stuff on Discogs and this attracts pricks who don't even know the band, but are really nasty with complaints. This one prick actually reported me to the staff, and yes, they contacted me.

you say you are the owner, but I very much doubt this as you have done only submissions from this book afaict.

  6. Anyone else tired of these? Are you an uptight Discogs prick?

Discogs has pages and pages of rules for submissions, many of which have been recently updated, so it is possible that your once-fine entry is now breaking some rules.

Along comes some prick, who instead of messaging you about a problem or editing the release by themselves, casts a "completely wrong down vote" which gets you banned if you get too many.

  7. I just read through the libretto. Lots of thoughts. Definitely the best SW record. I haven't listened to SW much over the past 2 years, nor much "pop punk," bored by the limitedness of the music. Baby Fat rights that wrong. The songwriting is more complex (yet still simple) than ever before.

The story is pretty archetypical with 2-dimensional characters. The villain is an atheist and there are heavy elements of Christianity woven into the script. While my personal worldview is 180 degrees different than Ben's, it would be childish of me to think that everyone like me (atheist) is a good guy. I won't get hung up about it.

I think this record will cause a lot of controversy with the song Sleeping Beauty. One of the best songs on the album (my favorite though is Living Hell), but the context make it squeamish to enjoy. Luckily, the songs are written in way to be enjoyed as stand alones outside of their context (the libretto provides detailed scenes between the songs).

Female characters being treated like possessions by all male characters is annoying, but Act 2 could save this. In contrast, Kat Spazzy is the record's great strength.

    I want Act 2.

  8. Also disturbing is what happens in the opera during some of the best songs such as Sleeping Beauty. No spoilers, but the song is incredibly fun, but the character Ben plays is so despicable, you feel guilty for wanting to sing along.

Another thing I don't like, as a sceptic atheist (yes, I am well aware of the stupid things I posted 5 years ago) the opera takes shots against atheism.

  9. I always hoped for a Riverdales album where Ben and Dan would take up different characters and do something like this.

So while I was excited for this kind of ambitious project, I was also a bit worried about Blag singing instead of Ben. I am not a Dwarves fan.

But Blag did an incredible job. Ben doesn't need to sing. The best analogy is a great Woody Allen movie that doesn't star Woody Allen.

Anyway, Ben picks up vocal chores on the third scene. Kat Spazzy's vocals are incredible and it does feel like Screeching Weasel all the way. I love all the vocals on the album. Paul Collins kills it.

I still have yet to listen to it with reading the libretto, but my only complaint is the ending. In contrast to almost every SW album that preceeded Baby Fat doesn't have an epic ending. It just stops. Makes you want Act 2 right away.

  11. Italy and Brazil are well know for Their terrible mail systems.

I find Italian sellers to great, though. Always good deals to be found in Italy because people are too afraid to buy.

I've only had one problem. The seller said the post office shattered the record and it was returned to him. He promptly refunded my payment.

  12. hey..

    I have a question.

I went to Recofan and I couldn't find one record.

but my friend Andrew told me that Recofan was the best..

    did I miss something?

    i actually went back twice..

I saw a bunch of like bargain LP's..

I know there was another one..  I went to the one in Shibuya..

The recofan in Shibuya is a pain in the ass. Luckily it's next to Disk Union. Yokohama one is much better.

Also, there's a new big shop in Shibuya called HMV records. Not to be confused with it's other locations. Just keep walk away from the station from the Disk Union and you'll get to this giant red brick building. It's the ground floor. Inside the 12 floor building a few specialty record shops that cater to specific genres. Across the street is a big hip hop shop called Manhattan Records. Next to that is Face Records and some other smaller shops.
