They're floor standing, but you also have them elevated 4 ft?  Not that that solves this issue, but is that what you're saying?

So what is the major benefit to using a DAC like the XDA-2 as opposed to just using a computer internal sound board? Is it by far the best thing ever even though it's the same audio files. I figure I know the answer but I've never fully understood what it is that DACs do.

Ultimately you're going to probably want to upgrade everything.  But for the sake of just wanting to play records, just the upgrade to the MMF and a decent pre-amp for now, with the expectations that you're going to upgrade the speakers later on.  Otherwise you're talking basically a brand new set up all at once and it doesn't seem like that's currently in your budget.  $270 for the TT, $150 or more for the preamp/maybe integrated amp, then i'd say $400+ for new speakers.

Can you get an MMF5?

I definitely found myself early on having some phantom beard.  I kind of miss the routine of cleaning it, and brushing it and stuff.  I do miss it, and don't know if I'll get it that long again or not.  I'm pretty comfortable with the fullness of what I have right now, just not the length.

That was about a month ago, and then I had to have an emergency surgery, and the anesthesiologist said the beard was unsafe or something.  I was kind of in a daze at that point, you really don't get much sleep in the hospital.  Either way this is today:

I'm like 10 minutes outside of Chicago and I've seen / been in a few hifi shops around here but am just so uneducated in these things that I just sort of looked around like an idiot without much idea of what anything there was... should really learn to actually ask people questions, huh?

 

And according the Magnolia website there are quite a few best buys with them around here as well as Magnolia design centers? I assume that's their flag ship?

You said you're outside of Chicago?  North side?  If so MusicDirect is doing a Warehouse Clearance right now until August 16th. Massively discounted things, open box deals that aren't online at all. I got a flyer in the mail, and have been considering heading there myself just to check out what deals they've got going on.  I'd think its worth heading there, and maybe they'd also be able to give some advice as well.

Do you notice the issue with multiple different records, or just one in particular?

Yeah that's one thing I didn't foresee, just like an extra 2 feet on either side would have helped, but I'm ok with what I've got.  I can always order more length and start from scratch again, and don't need to reorder the banana plugs.  Or just try to sell them if I ever do that.

When I ordered I got unterminated, BJC 10 white and also ordered their Premium Banana Plugs.  I think I ordered 11 feet of that, and split it in half.  Thinking back on it I definitely should have ordered more like 20 feet just so I have the extra length, but it worked out just fine.  If you're unsure I'd say go with terminated, and you'll need to order 2 separate cables.  It's pricey but worth it.

I've got these, and I really really like them.

$30 is rough for any record.  I'm not broke by any means, but it's beginning to be harder and harder to make myself get a record for $30.  I feel like I'll see this record on sale at christmas for $15...but i could be wrong.
