I was in the same situation with a similar setup. I had the Cambridge CXA60,  ProJect DC Esprit, 2M Red, and Cambridge CP1 preamp. I swapped out the preamp with a Lounge MKIII($300) and the 2M Red with a Nagaoka MP110($120). The cartridge swap was more of a parallel move but I like the Nagaoka's qualities more than the Ortofon. You may want to upgrade to the Blue. Pretty sure you can just swap out the stylus on the Red and Blue. The preamp was a definite step up.

The Esprit came with an acrylic platter and Im not convinced it's any better.

    Still really liking my CXA60.

Yea I know if you just go to the 2M blue from red, you can swap out just the stylus.  Once you go Bronze or Black you need to swap the entire cartridge.

  2. Over the last month I've really caught the upgrade bug and my wallet is paying for it.  I just recently purchased a Cambridge CXA80 amp and CXN (V2) streamer (connected with AudioQuest McKenzie XLR cables. )They power my Monitor Audio RX8s.  Sounds amazing.  Now I'm thinking about making a change to my turntable, phono preamp, or stylus.  Currently I have the Project Debut Carbon 2M red Orphon. The needle has way too many hours on it at this point.  Atleast 700 hours.  My phono preamp is a cambridge azur 551p.  My questions are, with my set up is it worth going to 2M bronze?  I've read the project debut carbon doesnt really benefit past the 2M blue.  Also, would consider upgrading my phono stage to something better.  Just cant afford to spend more than $500. Am I better of going bronze and keeping my phono, or going 2M blue and using rest for a better phono?  Last question, what exactly is the point of the acrylic plaster benefits and is it worth the $100?

  3. Can anyone suggest a vinyl shelving unit that is 42-44 inches long and holds two shelves of records and I can put my turn table, amp, preamp, and digital streamer on?  I've been using one from walmart for the last 4 years, but with the addition of bigger amp and streamer, they are hanging like an inch off the top.

  4. I've gotten all of these as gifts in the last few months and have no need for them.  Need dining room furniture instead lol #adultlife

Beats Solo 2 Luxe Edition wired- $50 (these are a gift from T-Mobile corporate so they have Pink T-Mobile writing on them). Pics available.

Sealed in box Google Home- $100 shipped (retails for $130 plus tax)  SOLD

Sealed Google Chromecast Ultra- $55 shipped (retails for ($70 plus tax) SOLD

Sorry if this is the wrong thread.  Could have gone to this one or Audio Equipment.

I'm right there with you my dude. 14-15 wasn't a good age for me. The Green Book does exist on vinyl though, I own it.

I got into ICP after seeing them on Howard Stern in like 2000.  I was 15.  And I was a devoted fan until around 21.  Not that I didnt listen to anything else, just always got past and present PSY stuff.  I still listen to anything new they have, just dont need to buy it.  Im looking forward to the new album in 2 weeks.

  6. Would be interested in just the ringmaster, but not at that price although im sure its beautiful.  I enjoy that album still.  Hell's Pit isnt bad, defiently better than Shangra-La.  I have Riddlebox and Great Milenko on vinyl.  I dont really enjoy any of their albums after Milenko (with the exception of Bizzar/Bizaar).  I used to be a huge Juggalo (tough to admit 15 years later lol). I own every PSY album from dog beats to FF4 on cd.  Including bug island, blaze, twizted, dark lotus (I should really get the lotus pod on vinyl.). I would also like The Green Book on wax.

  7. Only interested in CKY.  More interested in sleep though.  Willing to apy $10 more to sleep in and buy it on ebay.  I find that RSD releases have gone way down on ebay over the years.  Used to be like triple the cost, then double, now just a few bucks.  That's of course for less popular stuff.

Depending on who you speak to, and the level of critical listening, DACs to some make little difference, or a whole world of difference. Fifteen to twenty years ago, the costs of digital-to-analog conversion were significantly higher (which is why sound cards, discmans, and any other way to decode digital music cost hundreds of dollars). Now, a half-decent DAC costs literally pennies (take, for example the lightning to headphone adapter which costs $9 - it has a DAC in it, and it sounds pretty decent). Most cheap laptops now have passable DACs (though often terrible speakers). There are some incredible $100 DACs out there, and then when you start spending more, the improvements in sound are definitely noticeable but not significant until you start spending a lot more or get cutting edge technology. I do most of my listening with very expensive headphones, and I find I can definitely hear differences. On my speaker/turntable system, I don't hear as much of a difference (partly because my speakers are in my kitchen/dining room where I can't do as much critical listening).

Let me know if you are thinking more about DACs - I've owned at least 7 or 8 in the past few years, and while I'm not expert at all, I have definitely learned a lot about the differences and approaches.

youre amazing dude.  thank you so much.  im pretty content with just having the CXA streaming from spotify on my Mac via the BT100 bluetooth drive.  Sounds great on my Monitor Audio RX8.  Its funny cause all ive been playing since I got them in Pink Floyd, The Doors, Who, and Queen.  Sounding so good.  Oh I through Pawn Shop on by Sublime and thought the bass was going to wake the neighbors

I've been looking into streamers as well. Part of I think what you need to figure out is if you want to use the built-in DAC in a streamer like the CXN or if you want to get a streamer/server and then use an external DAC. My advice is that you can get some pretty decent streamers/servers from the $40 Google Chromecast Audio to the Auralic Aries Mini (about $400, a bit less used) and then spend the difference on a solid DAC. I just picked up a Chord 2Qute for $900 CAD (about $650US). Currently using a Chromecast Audio which you can attach coaxial into the DAC, as well as an Onkyo Digital Audio Player that has my uncompressed files.

I just did a bit of research on the DAC chips in the V1 and V2 CXNs. They are decent, but both of those are primarily designed as streamers more than for their DAC capabilities. Depending on if you want a screen, or an attached app, may be worth deciding whether you want multiple components or an all-in-one. If you have between $300-700 to spend, there are a lot of options. The thing I've found in doing research about streaming devices is that within two years they seem to be quickly obsolete, and/or their resale value goes way down. That's kind of why I've made the decision to have a separate streaming device to my DAC.

Thank you for this information.  I'm going to have to do a bit more research.  I still get a bit confused on the DAC part.  All I know if that the amp I bought has a DAC.

  10. Anyone have one of these?  I recently upgraded to a Cambridge CX80 amp and then started reading about this.  The reviews are pretty solid, but $900 may not be worth it.  I currently bluetooth from my Mac or phone to it using the Cambridge BT100 (when not spinning records.)  The BT100 works great, but really curious how much better this streamer can make Tidal, Spotify, and my iTunes library.

Also, there are two versions on the CXN with V2 just having an updated processor.  Would love to find a V1 for a reduced price, but cant seem to find one.  Suggestions?
