  1. I am only buying one color per title and moving on. There are some exceptions; if I get my hands on a rare pressing, I will sometimes grab a less rare copy to listen to, just to keep the rarer record in better shape. Also, I'm picking up as many variations of the Chuck Ragan records that I can, so long as I get them while they are still available for a few bucks, no ebay. I abandoned trying to collect every color of every HWM record months ago, and sold off many copies I had. Now I have at least one of each record and I'm done. They're pretty much the only band I'd want every single color of.

  2. ATTENTION RECORD NERDS: do not try to get everything from this band.. way too tough.. fun, but a lost cause. Meanwhile I'm sitting here trying to finish my hot water music collection, so maybe I'm not one to talk

I've already decided I'm not going to geek out on these guys and pay ridiculous amounts of money for OOP 7"s and such. I'm going to pick up whatever remaining in print records I don't have and call it a day.

  3. it seems like there's an awful lot of colours for this thing...i'd like to know the breakdown...

Preorders got a red/pink color, No Idea in the US and Green Hell in Germany got their own color (thats the most common variant, I believe), theres a European tour color, and a UK tour color.

A second press is in the works.

  4. Uhh... not that I care, but is this entire exchange just a joke or was there really some sort of falling out between you guys? If so, perhaps just take it off the forums? ???

stop taking the internerd so seriously, especially the goings on with messageboards. Eric and Aaron are some of my best friends...we just fuck with each other way too much and drag inside jokes into the public eye.

Like I said, I don't care, it just seemed to start getting weird if you guys were serious.

    Sorry I interrupted your joke.

  5. what in god's name is the benefit of all that extra crap???

It looks excessive, but a lot of it has a use. I don't really know too much of the technical stuff, but very, very high end turntables are designed to not have parts that interfere with eachother and everything is supposed to be perfectly stable, blah blah blah.

    $100,000 turntable

  6. Also, it's worth noting that Year of the Pig is a bit of a departure for FU.

Yeah, I've noticed that. I've heard some of the older stuff and I like most of it. I think that some of the earliest stuff won't appeal to me right away, but it all sounds pretty good.

    BTW, whats your holy grail?

  7. From what I gather, they all basically do the same thing... apply a cleaner to the record and scrub it (I know that sounds bad, but its not) and then vacuum it dry. The cheapest models are 100% manual (manual fluid application, manual rotation, etc). The more expensive models add more automation to the mix (and better build quality, I'm sure). So as long as you don't mind putting some work into it, you can buy a Nitty Gritty 1.0 for ~$330 and a used one for half that or less.

I was reading on an audiophile forum that some people prefer the Nitty Gritty models over the VPIs because of the placement of the vacuum motor, but the general consensus is both brands make good stuff. I think I'm going to go with a Nitty Gritty.

I remember seeing a video of one in action on Youtube, so if you just search for record cleaning machine or VPI or Nitty Gritty you might find it.

  8. OK, so I just got into these guys this past Sunday when my friend told me to buy Year of the Pig at Amoeba. I'm in love. I don't know how I missed them. Anyways, I've been looking around and it seems the only discography I can find of theirs is on Wikipedia, can any diehard FU fans let me know if this is complete and accurate? Which of these are still available at reasonable prices (and even better, where can I find them) and which ones will I have to drop big bucks on. Their catalog is so large, I'm simply confused.

  9. marble yellow is the least limited available exclusively at hot topic limited to 900...i think its 900 anyone know definately?

Yep, its 900. I think of the pressing info issued by Cobraside it was the color that had the most copies made. I think black was something like 700, turquoise was 300, green/grey was 400.

The problem with that pressing info (which I've seen multiple times before) is it doesn't even come close to the 5,000 that were supposedly pressed.
