  2. There are two stickers on the shrink wrap of the New Wave LP. One is the usual "featuring the singles..." and the other says "Includes bonus CD of entire album", so my assumption is every LP is packaged with a CD.

I still want the CD+DVD combo. I sure wish LP+DVD was an option. I was at that show in Hollywood where it was filmed, so I'd love to be able to have the DVD.

  3. definitely--this is my favorite tMG album. what of his/their stuff do you have on vinyl?

None, unfortunately. I can't afford any Mountain Goats vinyl (except Get Lonely, which is easy to find, I'm going to pick that up next time I see it).

However, I would kill for someone to press AHWT. Its my favorite tMG record by far, and probably in my top three favorite records of all time.

  4. i don't have that many records yet (being 15 with no job and not much money sucks) but i think mine would be the first one i got, cassadaga by bright eyes 2xlp 180g

I have that record too. Its really annoying when a double LP is put out but its not accompanied with a gatefold jacket. Putting them both in one sleeve is pretty annoying, not to mention tacky.

  5. Thats cool for collecting, but some people just want the album to listen to and such. Why should only a couple hundred people get to have a vinyl copy of certain albums? The fact that an album gets repressed so that more people can have it for practical reasons doesn't make your OOP first pressing any less valuable/rare.

i do think represses do hurt the value, you raise the supply of the record, and make it so the people who would buy a copy of the OOP record might just settle for the repress.

as far as why should only certain people have a copy? its called the benefit of being there, and into the band at the right time.. or paying for the privledge after the fact. In alot of cases the really rarest stuff comes from the bands early days, so only their earliest supporters have it.. and thats a nice benefit of investing your time and interest into a young band

Its hard to agree with the statement that represses hurt the value. There are lots of people that would never spend more than $15-20 on an LP, usually even less. However, there will always be the diehard collector/fan/nerds that will seek out that OOP first pressing on swirly p*ssy pink vinyl limited to only 50 copies and pay an arm and a leg for it.

Case in point, I sold a first pressing of Hot Water Music- Forever and Counting on transluscent yellow vinyl about a month ago (maybe a bit longer). It sold for $150, even though No Idea had already released their repress of that record and it could be had for $7. However, that collector wasn't going to be satisfied with a repress.

I know we have two different opinions on this, and I probably won't convince, but I believe there is a collector's market and there is a casual listener's market, and there's room for both.

  6. A few months back my old $100 table I bought from Best Buy had simply crapped out on me. So, without doing much research, I headed over to Guitar Center and picked up a cheap little direct drive DJ turntable (Stanton t.60X if it matters). I figured having a direct drive table would be good since I wouldn't have to replace a belt and since these things are built to withstand DJ abuse then this should surely a very long time with only recreational listening. However, the other day someone started telling me that DJ tables aren't good for listening and he kept going on and on but couldn't really give me any straight answers as to why they're so bad.

So can anyone shed any light on this? Can using a DJ turntable really create any problems or is my friend full of it?

  7. im not a huge fan of represses... part of the fun of record collecting is tracking down OOP records

Thats cool for collecting, but some people just want the album to listen to and such. Why should only a couple hundred people get to have a vinyl copy of certain albums? The fact that an album gets repressed so that more people can have it for practical reasons doesn't make your OOP first pressing any less valuable/rare.

  8. id would take me awhile to get past "A" as 3 of the like 6 bands i collect fall in that category.. ie Against Me!, Alkaline Trio, and Atom and His Package

You collect Atom And His Package, eh? Any interest in that Mountain Goats 7" he put out a while ago?

If you're looking to get rid of it, I'd be interested in it...

  9. am i seeing things or did one of those coheed douche bags actually sign the wax?

They actually signed the vinyl. There was a discussion about that subject a few days back. Some guy sold a bunch of Coheed records that he had signed by the band. I think it was 4-6 records and all of them were signed ON the vinyl.

  10. Just got Fallow by the Weakerthans in last night. I've been searching for that thing for a while and finally found someone willing to trade for it.

I also just picked up the following off ebay:

    Billy Brag- Life's a Riot

    Billy Bragg- The Peel Sessions

Also finally paid for the Gaslight Anthem- Sink or Swim on black vinyl (long story short- issues with ordering it last month, punkstop saved me a copy)

  11. I usually buy directly from labels. Lately ADD and Fast Crowd Records have been getting a LOT of my money. No Idea has also been known to drain my bank account. After that I'd say ebay. I've purchased a few items from VC before, I have all of their releases that I have interest in and have picked up a couple other things through their distro. Local shops are last, even though I live in Southern California and we should have awesome shops, the three local shops around here suck. I pick up a piece of vinyl there from time to time, but usually its something I could live without, I never find anything I'm really excited about locally.
