  1. I post on tons of different message boards, and the simplicity of this board is actually refreshing. I'm not crazy about the new page jump since the board got updated, but it's not like it's incredibly obtuse or anything. As far as karma goes, I don't think anybody really takes it that seriously. In fact, it's equally impressive for me to see someone with either +1000 or -1000 karma, 'cause you know that people are at least paying attention to what they say.
  2. This message has been moved to Vinyl Collective Cooperative Label by ScriptedRain.
  3. I would really love to see all of the old NOFX stuff. From Ribbed to SLATFATS.
  4. I hope they don't do Twisted By Design 'cause I just bought it when I ordered Leche Con Carne.
  5. I got a copy of Michael Jackson's Bad on vinyl for my 6th birthday.
  6. I don't know how your unemployment works, but I've been paying into it for years, so when I got laid off and was able to collect, I jumped ALLLLLLL over it. If I don't do it, some other asshole will, so I might as well try and recoup some of the money I've put into it.
  7. The band doesn't want it to happen. Obviously not, but I thought the thread was releases YOU want to see happen.
  8. By default, it's the new Cancer Bats album. It's the only album that's come out this year that I love.
  9. Saosin - Translating The Name w/ the two acoustic tracks and a killer etching on the b-side.
  10. Why would they only have the one first press copy? A new press is the same as a new record. It still costs money. Why don't the shareholders deserve their part? I sort of agree with both of you guys. Maybe let the shareholders opt out of any subsequent pressings if they choose to. We're bound to get releases that not everyone would want, but if we start repressing stuff, people might end up with two or three different pressings of a record they don't want. Personally I would rather my second and third pressings be put up for sale to raise more money. Unless of course it was a record I really, really wanted, which is why I think an optional opt out could be a good idea.
  11. I've already stated in this thread that I am completely on board with this, but I have a few observations/suggestions/questions. 1) Since a record label is a business, the goal is going to be turning a profit so we can get more records pressed. Therefore, I think what albums are chosen for the first two or three releases is going to be crucial in deciding the fate of the label. If our first release is something that very few people are going to want, it's going to take a long time to sell... if it does at all. I know that sounds obvious, but I still think it needs to be said. It's sort of silly for people to be suggesting the album they've always wanted on vinyl for the first release. I would be completely happy with an album that I don't even like and will never listen to as the first release, as long as I was confident that other people will like & buy it, because that opens up more opportunities to get a record I will like somewhere down the line. I would love to see the first two Moneen albums on vinyl, but how quickly are we gonna sell 700 copies of those albums? I don't know. I think that is something that should be discussed with every release. 2) At first I was pretty happy about getting the releases shipped to me for free, but someone posted a few pages back about their estimations on shipping costs (sorry to that poster, i seem to not be able to find the post right now to give you credit) and it got me a little worried. It does seem like it would end up getting fairly expensive. I would hate for this whole thing to go under because Virgil promised free shipping to everyone and he didn't want to go back on that and piss people off. I totally wouldn't mind paying $2-$5 extra in shipping for every 2 releases shipped together. Just a suggestion, and I think it's something else that should be discussed in a little more detail. 3) This is more of a question for Virgil. How long are you going to give everyone a shot at buying in before you let people buy more than one share. I was thinking about buying 3 or 4 until I saw that you were limiting it to one per person. (Which I totally agree with by the way) I just want to see this get off the ground, and although I can't really see it happening, it would be a shame to wait a month for all of the shares to sell out since that would delay getting the releases in our hands that much longer. If you agree or think I'm a complete asshole, I'd like to hear about it. More discussion is never a bad thing.
  12. No need to +1 for using a little common sense here. I'll still take it though.
  13. What's with everyone complaining about sixty bucks? I bet there are guys here that drink more than that a night on some nights. Even if the worst thing happens and you completely lose your money and have nothing to show for it, at least you did your part in trying to support something you love. Sign me up.
  14. Part 2 of the Mostly Toronto / Greater Toronto Area (but all Canadian) bands mega-uploads. Lucky Number Seven - Wasted Times Link - http://www.divshare.com/download/4197899-cd7 Sounds Like - The Suicide Machines with Jordan from NFG on vocals (i guess) These guys were my favorite band when I was 13. I think if they stuck at it a little more, they would have probably gotten a decent following. They opened for Against All Authority and Dillinger Four, among others. This is their only full length, and by the time it came out, the band already felt it wasn't really representative of their sound, since all of the songs except for one (My Best Friend) were written with by old guitar player. I still have their banner, which I won in a fixed raffle at their last show. Prime Cuts - Five Star, My Best Friend, That's Right! Lucky Number Seven - Demo 2000 Link - http://www.divshare.com/download/4197900-81e The songs on this demo are a much better representation of what the band actually sounded like. Prime Cuts - All Work No Play, It's Not Over Murder Culture - Demo Link - http://www.divshare.com/download/4197901-8c5 I'm almost positive that these are the only recordings these guys ever did, which is a shame. They were a 5 or 6 piece ska/reggae band with a hip-hop vocalist. Song 5 in this could be a huuuuuge summertime radio jam. Prime Cuts - Track 04, Track 05 Out Of Hand - Canadian Gothic Link - http://www.divshare.com/download/4197902-591 MySpace - http://profile.myspace.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=user.viewprofile&friendID=64489543 Sounds Like - Slayer, Raised Fist, Gorrilla Biscuits, SNFU, The Dayglo Abortions, DRI, Corrosion Of Conformity, Zeke, Entombed, Sick Of It All, Agnostic Front (from their myspace) "Out Of Hand formed in (or at least the bulk of it) 1993 when three highschool friends started a band together. After some experimentation musically and a few member changes they formed into OUT Of HAND. Hardcore partying and intense music is what these guys are all about. In 1997 they were signed to a multi-album deal with Raw Energy Records Toronto Canada and immediately started touring their first release Canadian Gothic which has gone on to become a southern Ontario punk rock favourite. With sold out shows on their first tour in BC, Satckachewan, Manitoba, Ontario & Quebec and sharing the stage with such bands as Propagandhi, The Dayglo Abortions, Deisel Boy, The Nobody's, SNFU, DOA, Trigger Happy & Raised Fist they immediately propelled themselves to one of the top Thrash/ Hardcore bands in Canada. Now after a 4 year hiatus they are back with avengence and are still holding thier own against all of the current music of today. Beware they are coming to a city near you so get ready to cause some shit." If that didn't make you want to download this, you probably won't like this band. But, if you like fast, heavy punk bands, you should love it. This album is a classic in my circle of friends. Prime Cuts - Grade 9 Slut, Livers In A Dangerous Time, Ilsethetra I had another album for this post, but a quick double-check revealed that you can still buy it online as a digital download apparently. In my next post, I'll be bringing the first two releases from Ontario's punk gods, The Fullblast.
  15. When I first started thinking of what I could post for defunct Toronto bands, Marilyn's Vitamins were the first to come to mind. All their material is out of print, but as their posthumous "best of" record is still apparently available via download from Underground Operations, I thought it was sort of a grey area. Reguardless, everyone should check them out any way they can. I thought the exact same thing. I have both their full-lengths and that "Best Of" album. I had to check the Underground Operations site to see if any of that stuff was still in print. I guess the good news is you can buy the Best Of album on iTunes, if anyone is interested.
  16. Mostly Toronto / Greater Toronto Area (but all Canadian) bands mega-upload posts to follow. I'm not sure how many people who aren't from this area and don't know these bands will appreciate this, so I've tried to give a link to a MySpace page wherever possible, or at least a comparison to a few other similar bands. Alexisonfire - The Math Sheets Demo Link - http://www.divshare.com/download/4197277-4b7 "Alexisonfire's first demo, 3 songs, 2 of which you all know. This was ripped from a CD-R which is why the bitrate is so low. It was never pressed, so suck it up." 01. the philosophical significance of shooting my sister in the face, an essay by james secord 02. counterparts and number them 03. little girls pointing and laughing Always Outnumbered - Until Tomorrow (Members of The Video Dead, The St. Alvia Cartel, Silverstein, The Reason) Link - http://www.divshare.com/download/4197281-fc0 MySpace - http://www.myspace.com/alwaysoutnumbered Sounds Like - Grade, Jersey, Hot Water Music, Knapsack, The Get Up Kids (from their myspace) These guys were way ahead of their time, unfortunately. I would say they're an "emo" band with a heavy lean towards Lifetime / early Saves The Day style punk. Quite a few fast songs, but lots of quiet parts too. The songs Never Let Go and Home on their myspace are from this album and are pretty indicative of the rest of the album. Chapter One - The Fields Of Eternal Eyes Link - http://www.divshare.com/download/4197287-ae1 Sounds Like - Third-Wave Ska I only saw these guys twice, and the first time I saw them I had the two songs they put on their website memorized, so I was singing along and they ended up giving me a free copy of the album because of it. But, I had already bought one. haha. There's a cover of Greatest Hits by Sublime on this album, as well as a decent acoustic song. If you're a fan of any kind of ska, at least check this album out. One of the best live bands I've seen. Closet Monster - A Fight For What Is Right Link - http://www.divshare.com/download/4197297-856 MySpace - http://www.myspace.com/uoclosetmonster This is the first full-length from the guys who started the Underground Operations label and brought you other great bands like Marilyn's Vitamins, Bombs Over Providence and Hostage Life. Quite a bit more pop-punk than their later stuff, but it's alright. I only bought this album because it had a re-recording of a couple songs that I loved from the cassette they put out before this. If you're interested in some political pop-punk from the same city that brought you the amazing Sum 41(...) check this album out. The second part of this is coming as soon as the songs are uploaded.
  17. Well, you obviously illegally downloaded the EP, too, because how else would that song have come in your possession mislabeled? This isn't supposed to be a flame or anything, but is it really that hard to believe that I actually own the album and downloaded a version that I saw was a "Limited Edition" with an extra track? Or do you just assume that everyone who has mp3's is a dirty thief?
  18. Thanks for the awesome info about illegal downloads, but I hope that was directed at the person who uploaded the file and not the person who was trying to help out with some info about it. Regardless, I can assure you this uh, is American Football. It's taken from a show at the Fireside Bowl in Chicago on 04/03/99. There's a little audience noise between songs, but it's definitely listenable. I'd give the overall sound quality a 3.5 out of 5. American Football - Live @ Fireside Bowl - Chicago, il (04-03-99) Link - http://www.divshare.com/download/4196420-f85 01. The One With The Tambourine 02. The One With The Wurlitzer 03. 19. I've never heard of a limited edition run of the American Football EP. Proof? This is ripped straight from the .nfo from the version of the EP I have, which has 4 songs. ≥ This is a limited edition release of the band's self titled ≥ ≥ EP, it comes with an additional track featuring Mike ≥ ≥ Kinsella. ≥ ≥ ≥ ≥ The first release from ex-Cap'N Jazz/Joan of Arc guitarist ≥ ≥ Mike Kinsella. Light, refreshing melodies of dual guitars ≥ ≥ and no bass layered with soft, pitter-pattering, slow ≥ ≥ rhythms are complemented by Kinsella's high pitched, syrupy ≥ ≥ vocals. All in all, this three-song disc will leave you ≥ ≥ anxious to hear more. "Letters and Packages" is perhaps the ≥ ≥ most compelling song of the three - a quiet sort of driving ≥ ≥ piece that weaves through the ears gracefully. - Blake Butler
