  1. Lost also gave us a hand-wavy explanation to everything that left a huge portion of its fanbase disappointed.

Even before the light saber battle, Rey figured out on her own how to resist Kylo's mind penetration and use the Jedi mind trick. If she had training before, that puts it into more of a grey area but I still think it's inconsistent -- no one else in the series just figures out these things on their own.

Giving up the conversation. Don't mean to continuously shit on the movie to people who really enjoyed it. It wasn't bad, I just wanted (and based on the early reviews, expected) more.

  2. A New Hope was nominated for best picture in 77. You didn't need to see the next film in order to think that it was a great movie.

Movies should stand and be judged on their own, not judgement reserved until a whole trilogy is released. If you think differently, cool. I don't.

The midiclorians thing didn't bug me. I would have been fine with it either way (explained or unexplained). It's Star Wars, so I don't expect it to be realistic and I can suspend disbelief. What I don't like are inconsistencies in the storylines. For example, what was brought up before where every other Jedi in the whole series needed training to unlock their powers and somehow Rey just figured out how to face a Sith on her own (albeit a young and inexperienced Sith, but still a Sith).

  3. Agree to disagree. I've already shared my detailed thoughts on the movie so won't rehash. I just don't give a pass for what I believe was a mediocre movie because the next one might be really good. A New Hope succeeded in creating a fantastic movie while setting up an ever better one. I believe this movie had potential to do the same but that they dropped the ball by rehashing the same characters, lines, and plots instead of doing something new and innovative.

Also, for every one movie in a series that got better as things went along there are 100 Matrix Reloadeds. I expect the next one to be about the same level of quality. Thinking that the overall quality of the movie will be much better because they left explaining who Rey's parents were or how Kylo went to the dark side is probably setting yourself up for failure (it's just the odds of it). If you loved this movie, I'm sure you'll love the next also. I don't expect them to redeem the naysayers of this movie with the next.

  4. There was a stat change for Denard that changed a whole bunch of semifinal match outcomes. If your league had a close battle, may want to check again.

My buddy is in a Yahoo league that processed the finals matchup before the stat correction was in and now it has the wrong set of dudes in the finals. There's a lot of bitching going on about whether the stat change should count or not (I clearly think it should, but I'm sure the guy who loses because of it thinks otherwise).

  5. It was the first thing posted in there -- set "local" to "on" (whatever that means).

    Much appreciated.

She actually gave me 2 keyboards. The other one is a monster (Korg Pro X Trinity). That one was WAY overkill for what I'm trying to do so I can sell it for her now and keep the smaller one. Looks like they are worth about $800 even used.

  6. My gf game me her bro's keyboard (he is out of the country and likely never coming back). It's a Korg x5d. Seems to be worth about $300-$400 in good working order. Unfortunately, it will fire up but I cannot get it to make any sound.

Any easy fixes I should investigate? If not, what should I do with it? Throw it on CL as is for, I don't know, $50? Or are they fairly easy to service? I don't want to put hundreds into the thing, but it seems to be worth enough to get it fixed if I can.

  7. I think that a lot of the negative criticism comes from the fact that the initial reviews were that it was AMAZING. I wish I hadn't heard that. I might not have been so quick to see the glaring faults in it if my expectations hadn't gone from low to as high as they can be. Oh well.

Regardless of who Rey's parents are, I think she got Jedi mind tricked into staying on Jakku, probably to hide her from the dark side. That's the only way I can think of for her feeling like she needs to wait there for her family but not even knowing who they are

  8. Poe was one of my least favorite parts (besides Rylo, that was mostly poor casting as far as I'm concerned). He seemed like he's the replacement Han, supposed to be brash and a little funny, but he wasn't roguish enough. Just came off cheesy.

I agree that it was pretty much a carbon copy of the original, I was reeeeeally pissed at first when I saw another "Death Star" on the poster. I think it's mostly being used as a setup for the next two, which is kind of a bummer and a waste of a movie, but I still liked it equally as much or more than RotJ. I'm not as upset at the lack of Rey's backstory, because I know it's coming in ep viii, but I wish they'd played Rylo as more hateful than such a whiny crybaby. The lightsaber tantrums were awful.

I do agree they left some things for episode vii but I don't give them a pass for that. Episode IV set up V nicely while still being an amazing flick. Judging this film independently.

  9. Think it's being way overhyped. I'll agree it was better than the recent trilogy but that's about it and not a very high bar.

It's basically the same storyline as Episode IV with a whiny Darth Vader. Also agree while occasionally funny the constant attempt to be humorous took away from the drama and action. Obviously there is more to come with Rey's backstory but the did a shitty job of at least generally explaining who she is (meaning, we didn't get the full backstory with Rylo but at least they sort of explain who he is and how he got there).

Poe and Fin were tight. The rest of it bordered on pandering to Star Wars fans.
