Mitch and I have almost identical tastes in music. I would have taken out Ted Leo for the Gaslight Anthem and the rank order of the records would have been different, but that is basically my top 10.

I think what you are saying is that you are acting as middle man, and would expect a little compensation for it. It's OK if you don't ask for a record over a hundred dollars, but something in the $30 to $40 range is OK (this is how I read "what a huge HWM fan thinks it's worth". If I am reading correctly between the lines, what you are describing is no different from selling on ebay, but it's just to a lesser degree. You are still taking a profit to deliver the record from band to buyer, when if no one did anything like this every record bought would go to a HWM fan without the cost of middle men. I'm not passing judgement. I've bought, sold, and traded for profit in the past. I'm just saying I don't see that much of a difference between buying to sell on ebay and buying to trade. Trading records you bought for yourself but didn't end up wanting to keep is what is truly benevolent.

Yeah I was just going to ask falloutcollapse what he thought a "fair" trade was. Is it for a record worth $20, or one worth more?

I am in agreement that these ideas are awesome. I like almost all of the bands mentioned for the 7" series. Teenage Bottlerocket is a must!!! I like the idea of investing, but something troubles me. What percentage of buyers from the vinyl collective store are "regulars" that post on here a lot. I am worried that all the investors would make up something like 70% of VC business. Thus, the majority of the profit VC would be making would be off the investors. If this was the case this just turns into the pitch in to press vinyl records idea. It's kind of tough to explain, so I hope I did an OK job. I still like the idea, but am just trying to play devil's advocate.

My opinion is that the decision rests with the band. If they want to make special covers to commemorate a show and only press enough for the people who attend those shows, then limit the buying to one copy. If they want to sell them at the show but also allow others who don't attend to have a copy, then press extras and sell them on the no idea store. One option is more "special," the other is more profitable. I don't think it's right to only press a small amount and then sell people 5 copies.

They've got a really good following on punknews.org, which is much bigger than this site. Still, I get your point. They haven't crossed into "mainstream" independent bands yet.

I'll be watching this one. There is so much buzz around this band, but no one selling yet. I'm curious about how much this goes for.

this is actually are really awesome idea. our recordings wont be done for another few weeks. but i am sure nate would be down. are there enough people with bands on here where we could make this happen??? I am sure there are people on here that may be willing to contribute with artwork / screen printing jackets to help off set the cost?? I'm not in a band, but I could contribute an acoustic Queers or Lillingtons cover. (I only mean this only semi-seriously. I've never played outside my bedroom)

Are there any sites that log ebay auction ending prices, especially for records? There are a lot of offers to sell records that I want on this site, but I don't want to frustrate anyone with unintentional lowball offers.

That's what I do too. The Boys is such an awesome title! Every time I read one I end up laughing so hard it takes an hour to get through it.

Love this band. Especially Red Eyed Soul. I wish I could help with the pressing info, but I have no clue. I do know that you can still order colored and black ATBI from Chunksaah, so neither can be that rare.

If No Idea did this I would go nuts with buying things. Too bad I'm not into hardcore.
