  1. Hey Royce . Interested in selling your Great Big Pile Of Leaves stuff and Depreciation Guild?
  2. Hey all, It's been a long time since I spent any time on these boards, but I'm checking back in to chime in here. I should also forewarn you that I've known the Little Elephant guys for years and can't claim to be unbiased. That said, I've got to say that these lathes sound excellent. I bought sessions from Pinegrove, The City On Film, Into It. Over It., Foxing, Caleb & Carolyn, Cory Branan, Narrow/Arrow, and have yet to pick up my copies of TTNG, CYHSY, Half Waif, Joie De Vivre, or Dolfish. Again, speaking on the sound quality; these things are likely superior to any lathe cut you've ever heard. I don't mean to be hyperbolic; I've just had the same experience as many of you. I know how deeply these guys care about what they do - which has come across in spades for years of their YouTube session and Q&A videos - but that's not the reason I stand by these session lathe cuts. Plainly and simply, they sound very good. Through my Pro-Ject turntable, NAD amp, and Wharfedale bookshelf speakers I notice very little sonic difference when playing a session cut before or after a 180g pressing. I say this only to underscore that I'm not simply spinning these on a Crosley from Target while preaching on sound quality. I will grant you guys that I wish each cut were $12 instead of $15, especially when some have just two songs. But since Little Elephant splits all profits with the bands and these things aren't cheap (or quick) to cut, I don't mind buying the sessions I love. To me, I'm supporting these few guys who I watch work tirelessly out of a house in a Toledo suburb, bringing amazing musicians into the area and giving their fans a unique way to hear the music. Not a paid advertisement. Ha. Do what you want, but I'm a happy, returning customer and I can't wait to see what Little Elephant does next, should these lathe cuts afford them more opportunities. Tim
  3. i don't think i'd like to part with mine, but wanted to let you know that it is indeed a pressing of 700.
  4. uhm. ok. same here. http://www.deadformat.net/tradelist/listenwell
  5. i don't mean to repeat weshallallbe, but you could get all of those owen records (with the seaside cd, as it is not on vinyl) from polyvinyl for under $40 if you use a 10% coupon code i could give you if you message me. tim.
  6. makes this kickstarter project even more relevant. http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/rockproper/jay-bennetts-whatever-happened-i-apologize-on-vinyl
  7. i thought the abc season worked well. i had faded as a fan because the show just got more and more ridiculous, almost a live action family guy with all the cut scenes and absurdity. the last season was less formulaic, and there were a few episodes that were even touching (without just relying on some sappy singer-songwriter song over a montage). there was one episode that was almost entirely turk and jd sitting in a room talking to a guy who was going to die about death. i too have tired of braff for the most part, but i'm at least curious about the new direction.
  8. Just wanted to let you know that as voting closed yesterday, I appeared to officially be in tenth place. Obviously lower than I'd wanted, but (at worst) I won a DVD set I already own and (who knows) can still be reviewed and potentially selected to win the role. They'll announce that on or before June 1st, so I'll let you know. Thanks again for helping. tim.
  9. 7.5 hours left. barely in tenth place. need any ounce of goodwill left in you. http://blogs.amctv.com/breaking-bad-contest/2009/05/tim-friedman.php tim.
  10. 31.5 hours left as I type this. Soon, I won't be hounding you, so for one more day, please find it within you to do whatever you can to help. I've fallen to sixth place and that winnie the pooh one is in third. Thanks, gents. http://blogs.amctv.com/breaking-bad-contest/2009/05/tim-friedman.php tim.
  11. truth. though, pee-wee's playhouse perfected my childhood.
  12. I've tried to avoid overdoing this and annoying you too much, but we're now inside the last five days (120 hours) and I'm barely in fourth place. I know all the hard work that was put into the first round paid off, so if you've got it in you to keep helping through all our little social networking sites (and in real time), please do so. God, I want this. http://blogs.amctv.com/breaking-bad-contest/2009/05/tim-friedman.php tim. remember, there's a little "share" button under the video to make it easier for you, if you choose to pass this along. i hope, i hope, i hope.
  13. A Night At The Opera is pretty great. Duck Soup was certainly a great way to start out. I actually just got two Marx Brothers box sets and will let you know when I watch more.
  14. i really can't afford to do that, scott. if i could, i'd probably first send thank you cash to those who've been slightly more vocally supportive. i am sorry that you can't bring yourself to vote for free, but that's your call, sir. everyone else, i'm solidly in second place in this final round. we've got until next monday (18th). i just want to make sure i don't fall behind. as imperfect as my entry may appear to some of you, i feel more confident when watching the other finalists. if you'd like, find me on facebook, and we can spread the word together. http://blogs.amctv.com/breaking-bad-contest/2009/05/tim-friedman.php thanks again. tim.
  15. I know there are going to be several people that won't want to hear this... The finalists from that round of voting are now up and can be voted on ... again. While Breaking Bad's creator still picks the winner, voting may or may not be relevant to his decision. AND... all entries start back at 0 votes. I really am sorry to have to ask for your help again, but if you've invested yourself already and want to see it through, I've got a slightly different link for you... http://blogs.amctv.com/breaking-bad-contest/2009/05/tim-friedman.php Let the backlash begin.
  16. i've actually never been to mind's eye. i've heard good things. we're destined to disagree on everything, huh? bummer.
  17. scott, also i was just admiring a bulk of your collection. having many similar tastes and your being from cleveland, i assume (hope) you frequent Music Saves. one of the biggest downfalls of moving to bowling green was moving further from kevin and melanie. if you stop in there, and don't already despise me, let them know i miss them. tim.
  18. scott, you don't have to support me. but obviously several other board members have chosen to, and some have invested themselves a great deal. it's because of these kind individuals that i am now in first place. i have nothing but gratitude to those who have accepted that regardless of how many times i post on a message board (that i'm often frightened of being chastised on), it's still alright to be open towards me. i'm not sure that this is necessarily a dangerous precedent. i posted this in the "everything else" section. is this any more dangerous than the "what drugs have you done?" thread? i've done nothing but encourage those that are against me as i try to attain something great (in my opinion) to speak up and explain why, and you've done just that, but now i'm finally saying something different... what's the harm? you don't HAVE to open this thread. you don't HAVE to respond. i haven't set up 80 "FREE VIAGRAZ CIALIS OMG" threads, so focus your attention and valuable time on what interests you rather than what doesn't. you may find yourself to be less stressed that way. and as for contributing to this board; as i've stated before. i usually lurk around the trade section and have contacted members privately about vinyl. i've not felt the need to join in on any "manly man" conversation. for those who i've promised updates to... i'm IN FIRST PLACE! this round of voting ends in less than two hours! i'm not entirely sure what's next, but I WILL let you know. thanks for all of your help. it's really meant a lot to me. this whole contest has been (mostly) positive and overwhelming. thank you. thank you. thank you. tim.
  19. i'm glad, jake. i was impressed with their first album, but this new one is spectacular. i can't stop listening to "southern ocean."
  20. 8:30 PM UPDATE! 325 votes! 2nd has 334. 1st has 346. By the way, the second place video incorporates a Winnie The Pooh stuffed animal. You have to want me to beat that, right? Keep myspacing, facebooking and whatevering. And actually one-on-oning with a few people will probably push me over the top. http://blogs.amctv.com/breaking-bad-contest/2009/04/tim-friedman.php
  21. 3PM UPDATE! 308 votes. 2nd has 333. 1st has 345. and, i've been asked a few times how to keep tabs on my rank. it IS slightly convoluted. but here's the answer, nonetheless. if you go to that site and scroll down a bit. on the right side, under editor's picks, under an advertisement are the "most votes" and "most comments" sections. click on the votes, obviously and then if you just mouseover the names you can see how many votes they have. 20 hours left!
  22. I just wanted to post since we're inside of 24 hours left to vote. At this second I'm 53 votes from FIRST PLACE! i feel like 'coldlampin' has the mindset i would have if this wasn't me. so, now that you know how close we are to putting me in that number one slot, i hope i can get you to vote if you haven't, and possibly to post the link on myspace, facebook, uh... twitter? anything. thank you guys so so so much. oh, and new episode tonight! i suppose if you haven't known what this show is all about you should watch tonight. http://blogs.amctv.com/breaking-bad-contest/2009/04/tim-friedman.php thanks thanks thanks! tim.
  23. It's odd an odd sensation to sound like a broken record but for it be with a phrase like "thank you so much." ok. quick recap: i'm now number 3 and 78 votes from FIRST PLACE! my relentlessness on friday and having so many people post the link on their facebook and myspace cannot be overstated. so, since tomorrow is the last full day to vote, i'm hoping for one last big push. i'm trying to get everyone who can (and wants to) to keep facebook cluttered with this link throughout the day tomorrow. i just want to say again how gigantic every vote is at this point and how much i've appreciated you getting me to where i am in this. http://blogs.amctv.com/breaking-bad-contest/2009/04/tim-friedman.php also, notice that the winner also gets $1000. think about how many offers i could end up making on your list. ha. tim.
  24. thanks, adam. thanks, alan. thanks, alan. and jesse, i think that's a logical argument. i will say this, however. i specifically used my digital camera rather than my isight camera, and recorded about 20 takes. most often because i'd paraphrase or go over in time (had to be one minute or less). i certainly am not reading anything as i took about a half an hour to read the brief monologue, memorize it, and try to comprehend what must be going on in my (or walt's) head to deliver it. i figured, the final judging could come down to any small thing, so i didn't want going off script (even by a word) to affect my chances. as far as doing something more dynamic, film-wise; my decision was two-fold. first, i had seen a coupd creatively put-together videos and thought they distracted from the acting, and i'm guessing a small acting role will be given in response to acting, rather than editing abilities or clever gimmicks. again, i'm letting my acting to all the work, and that may be the core of your dissatisfaction. after all, i'm no ruth buzzi. the second factor in the simplicity of the video is that the contest has been going on since the beginning of March. I only found out about it at the end of April, so I recorded and submitted last Sunday. now, being open to criticism usually means just accepting the opposing view and learning from it. since i cannot submit a second video, nor do i have a flying deloreon (yet), i settled for playing defense. doesn't make your case any less relevant. i certainly understand and respect it. i just wanted to clarify i did put a little more time and effort into this than the final product may suggest to you.
  25. i actually agree with you on that, jesse. i appreciate 'trivial's sticking up for me. but i knew full well what i opened myself up to by posting on this and the three other boards i posted on. now, yes, i always wonder why many message boards have to so quickly become so negative, but by the type my fingers touch the keyboard to comment on that i realize that that's just my opinion, and it's just as valuable as someone who doesn't agree with it. to go one notch further... jesse, your opinion can absolutely be "very valuable." and i'd like to think i am open to constructive criticism (just as i have to accept non-constructive criticism). unfortunately, you've simply stated that i killed the scene in a bad way and that i should have done it "cooler." i would actually welcome you to further state what you dislike. i'm sure i've already considered your possible points. i may have over-acted the monologue. i may have put too many pauses into it. maybe i should have shaved and mimicked walt's mustache. maybe i should have found a way to utilize a higher quality camera. maybe i shouldn't have stolen the idea for the record mural in the background from a nestle quik commercial. so, jesse, if you'd like to clarify what it is you feel so strongly and negatively about, this is just as much your forum as it is mine. anyone, for that matter, should feel free to watch my video and comment openly and honestly. http://blogs.amctv.com/breaking-bad-contest/2009/04/tim-friedman.php but while you're there, you may as well vote for me, huh? tim.
