this I figured it out just fine. I just wanted to make sure that I had figured it out correctly before I put the needle down and fucked something up. And I don't troll. Mostly because I have better things to do than sit in my basement feeling about how much better I am than that dumbass who had the nerve to ask a question about how to play a non-standard record, but other reasons too. I'm not a self-righteous dick being pretty high on that list of reasons.

I've been able to snag a copy of Sigur Ros' European RSD release. It says that it plays "Inside out". Do I play it exactly the same way as a standard record except placing the stylus in the middle of the record rather than the outside? I just don't want to mess it up by assuming.

My local record shop had about 250 people waiting in line before the shop opened, and all of the records the shop received were gone in less than 2 hours except for a handful of 7s. I got one LP I wanted (Ricky Skaggs and Tony Rice), but missed out on all of the rest (Civil Wars 7", Steven Wilson, Sigur Ros, Branford Marsalis), and 1 CD (The Civil Wars - Live at Amoeba). I was also able to snag the Mastodon/Flaming Lips 7" and got a Rockabye Baby album (The Smiths). I bucked up and already eBayed what I really wanted, even though I'm paying a whole lot for them. Because I NEEDZ DEM!!

well of course i'm excited about these 2 lol i thought that was a givin my Heritage box set is already on the way! Unfortunately, Heritage sucks. It was BY FAR my most highly anticipated album for me this year, and it disappointed like I thought Opeth never could. The Hunter is awesome, however.

I love gatefold packaging, especially if the lyrics are printed inside. MUCH better than an insert. I like sittle there with a coffee table book sized gatefold to read my lyrics/liner notes.

No download card or CD with new releases. Shitty inner sleeves (Shitty being defined as crappy paper sleeves or sleeves that are too tight and I have to force a record in/out causing scuffs) Represses sans original gatefold (for those that originally had gatefolds).

i have 3 kids, and tomorrow i will have a wife. i still don't see my collection (as a whole) going anywhere soon. i'll still sell stuff i don't listen to anymore, only to quickly replace with something better. i plan on willing it to the child that enjoys it the most. hoping they take good care of it and don't sell everything the week daddy dies. I've always been serious about music, but never serious about my music collection until AFTER I got married and had kids.

And that's what makes up all these n00bs and Newjacks that can drop any amount of money in eBay and instantly have "awesome" collections with very little effort...pfffft... : So then it's not about the music, but about how one acquired it? If your collection and mine is identical, but I bought mine online and you got yours by digging through crates, your is better? That's one hell of a stream of logic.

I don't know how I feel about collecting variants yet. It does seem silly to continuously buy the same album over and over. But it's still cool in concept to have every variant. I have chosen 1 band that I will do this with. Wyrd (a folk/black metal band from Finland). They aren't all that great and not all that prolific, but it also means that the albums aren't that expensive and there aren't that many of them. They have 4 albums released on LP and 1 7". Each LP has 3 variants and the 7" has but 1 (black). I currently am waiting for the last release outstanding to arrive in the mail. I also have 2 of the 5 test presses and though I'll keep my eye open for the others, I also realize that there were but 5 of each made and the chances of finding those outstanding are quite slim. Since there are but 12 albums, I'm likely to frame them all and display them as opposed to having multiple copies of each record sitting in the crate.

The Firestone Audio Little Country III Tube Headphone Amp/Preamp. This little booger is the cat's ass. Since it's for your computer, the tubes will take some of the harshness out of the all digital processing and introduce some nice warmth in to the sound. I have one connected to my record player and love it.

Thanks for the plug man! I know what I would choose but I'm biased lol. I'm holding out hope Burning Shed will put these up for wholesale so I can get them a little cheaper. I doubt it though. There is no way Burning Shed does that. They'll be gone soon enough. The $118 is worth it (4LP set with book). Absolutely amazing album. Yes, same show as DVD/Blu Ray, but with an extra track.

Sound is amazing, and the price is right (for tubes).

I'll keep it short and sweet . . . This 4LP live album is awesome. The textures are so real you can almost feel the wood of the drums and see the vibration of the strings on the guitars. If you like PTree at all, get it while you can. They still have it available on their site. Lexington, KY CD Central: Not a huge selection, but a good one. They have a decent amount of metal (though not overwhelming by any means) and indie. Mostly CDs, but I find something every time I walk through the door. God mix of both new and used records, with a decent selection in just about every genre (though very little classical). The Album: Very small. They specialize in R&B/Soul/Funk/Hip-Hop. I wouldn't expect to find much here. Pops Resale: The first time I walked in this store I was overwhelmed. They have LOTS of used records (very few new). Though I quickly became disheartened at 1) the utter lack of organization and/or genre separation, 2) their utter lack of screening any of the records as they come in for vinyl quality (you're as likely to find a record that's virtually unplayable as anything else), 3) the fact that I have to flip through 14 records by The Brady Bunch or Donnie Osmond because they just can't seem to get to the point where too much of a bad thing is bad. Knoxville, TN Disc Exchange: Good selection of new, not as much used. Lots of Indie stuff, decent metal selection. Lenoir, NC Repo Depot: This was a great little shop. Not a huge selection, but a pretty good one, especially classic rock and pop through the late 80s. Decent prices and their vinyl is generally in VG or better shape. The hippie dude who owns it is cool to talk to as well.
