Does it matter what he does with HIS records?
There is nothing wrong with asking someone why they do things. He didn't say anything negative.
-
I think picturedisks are obnoxious in general.
-
Some of the posts on this page made me lul. Good work.

Artwork looks like they are trying to relive the Coming Up days. Admitedly, I'm a fan of that era. Sci-fi Lullabies, Coming Up, and Head Music were great albums.

Can you adjust VTA on the Carbon like you can on the Music Hall 2.2?
No, the carbon does NOT have the VTA adjustment. Good catch. Are the feet on the MH2.2 adjustable height? Not sure if adjustable feet and VTA justify $100 but good to know the differences.
-
Thanks. Sounds good.

Getting 20% off a Music Hall isn't bad. I'm just not sure why they are so expensive in the first place. I think they have better feet than the Carbon, but I think that's it.

Question about "retail exclusive".
I see some speculation in the thread that it will be sold at Hot Topic, but is that the only retail outlet, or will some go to distros/one stops for local record stores to stock? I go through my local record store to get most of my new vinyl and I think i'll like the army green color best, but I also don't want to miss out on anything due to lack of info.
Thanks!

I'm getting rid of my repress. I didn't hear enough of a difference to justify all the extra flipping. In a case of give me convenience, I prefer the original on one LP in the end.
Of course that gold foil sticker might lure me into it this 20th Anniversary edition yet.
What extra flipping? The repress was just one LP.

It's harder to dial it in properly than it is to perform the swap. If a person feels comfortable and confident working with a screwdriver, tweezers, and one's hands, then do it. just know the risks and that there is a chance that the stylus can be damaged. Be careful and eveything should be OK.
I.ve changed plenty, the one problem I had was a clasp broke off of a tonearm wire when I pulled it off of the cartridge. I was grasping the clasp properly and was being very careful. The others came off fine. Just making sure that everyone knows that even when you are being careful, accidents happen.
If you don't think you can do it, or don't feel comfortable, then get a pro to do it. easy.

I like Herbie's stuff, but it may be more than you want to spend. Check it out.

Yellow marble is the original ORG RTI pressed reissue. The transparent yellow is the pallas pressed ORGMusic reissue. A press run of the latter was available at hot topic.

It should be fine. Maybe not ideal in some ways, but nothing will get hurt or damaged.

$100 for all of that seems like a steal. Too bad I won't be going. The closest show is 3 1/2 hours away.

Of course it's all subjective. When I had a debut, I put a dl-160 and an acrylic platter on it and it sounded very good. Could a better cartridge have made a noticeable difference? I will never know, but when I put the Denon on my Classic, the Denon sounded a lot better than it did on the Debut.Yeah, I totally agree that in certain cases, it's just silly to invest in a cartridge that far outperforms the turntable. I guess I was under the impression that you'd be able to squeeze a little more out of the Debut Carbon. Like I said, I really have no personal experience with any Pro-Ject tables, so what do I know? Definitely interesting to learn that though.Unfortunately, for a lot of us we'll never have the opportunity to test different components on our system before we buy, so we can only give general advice. But, that's all it is general advice.

Unless stated as something other than shipping. Shipping cost should be as close to the actual shipping cost as possible. Profit margin not enough? raise your price. Selling something takes time and can incure costs. Cover those costs with the price of the item, not false shipping numbers.
-
exactly. I'm not putting anything down, and I definitely recommend upgrading the catridge on the Debut III. It's simply my opinion that a cartridge in this price range is going to give you all that the Debut III can provide. Anything more and it's going to waste.
-
I wouldn't suggest that anyone spend more than $200 on a cartridge upgrade for the Debut III.

The Shure cartridge is a moving magnet (MM). It will work with the Bellari.

Your first question was thoughts? And people are giving them in general. But I'm sure you'd like some more specific critiques of the things you have listed. I have never heard any of the listed equipment except for the RP1. I like the RP1, but I hate the om5e. And I have to wonder why they offer that white belt as an upgrade. Just include the belt if it makes a good difference. It's a belt. How much more could it possibly cost Rega?
If you want bookshelf speakers, check newegg. Deftech Promonitor 350 are on sale for 179. Then put more money into a better table.
I have the V-DAC dac and I like it a lot. The MKII is the new one, but I would check out deals on the original.
I have never heard the Music Hall, and I don't really have a suggestion for an integrated in this price range.
But doesn't the Apple TV have both digital and analog audio out? I know that it might not be a great quality DAC, but it's certainly usable while you build a system. This, again would allow you to spend more money on your turntable or another piece of your choice.
Even though there is something to be said about evening out the chain, because of the physical nature and potential for wear on the medium, I think it's important to get the best turntable to minimize wear of your precious records.

Check newegg right now! The Definitive Technology speakers are on sale again. $400 for the BP8 tower pair or $179 for the Promonitor 350 bookshelf pair. These are GREAT speakers and are selling for 60% off.

You know what's great about used speakers? The market is super soft and one can usually find perfect or near perfect speakers for half off or more. Testing? look at them, listen to them. That's it. no dirty innards or transformers to go bad. Just inspect the cones (and the rest of the speaker) and listen for defects. Most people with quality equipment treat it nicely, especially if they plan to upgrade. Sometimes these items have been passed down as people upgrade many times. And while the item has been treated nicely and still in great shape, the price is super cheap because one individual got it at a great price when he was starting out and he wants to pass it along to a new guy with a great deal. I'm not saying that this is super common or the norm, but there are plenty of good guys/girls out there willing to help out the new person get into something they love.
I have to run, but I'll chime in with more a bit later.

I have the VTI. But I added another shelf, filled the legs with sand, and added Herbies Audio feet to minimize vibration. I also made a custom maple top shelf for my behemoth of a record player. I have been very happy.
I thought i would do the DIY flexy, but wood/MDF in the size that I needed (see above reference turntable) was not cheap, and the threaded rods weren't as tall as I wanted.
The problem with the lack hack, is indeed the legs. The new lacks have mostly hollow legs, which makes it nearly impossible to adjust the height of the shelves.

Nice work figuring it out. Hope you get thing back up and running.

Yeah, Ascension didn't sound so good to me the first time through, either. Now it's my number two.
